The April 1941 print date is more than a year after Churchill delivered this speech and nearly a year into his premiership. This speech was published in a variety or sizes and slight text variations. Red and Black print remains vibrant despite slight creasing. Churchill uses this speech to underscore the importance of the English[man]'s cause, condemning brutality and providing a call-to-arms for those at home and abroad.

George Coggeshall was an American sea captain who for nearly twenty-six years, having received his first command in 1809. Privateering occupied him during the War of 1812. Perhaps the most interesting voyage recounted here is in the schooner Sea Serpent, from New York to Callao, Peru, in the years 1821/2 but there are other voyages to France and the Mediterranean, Lisbon, Lima, Cadiz, and St. Thomas.
