Very Good. 383pp. Edith Cadivec was arrested in January 1924 on a charge of procuring and rape, and after a brief trial was sentenced to six years by a Viennese court. The main accusations against Cadivec involved the flagellation of children, for her own amusement and that of others who paid for the privilege. A number of whips and similar instruments of discipline were found in her house, including a whip with a silver handle on which the word 'dominatrix' had been engraved. Her defense centered on her belief in the necessity of corporal punishment as part of the educational regime at the school she ran. Cadivec's evident mental instability however lead to her early release from prison, at the end of 1925, after which she wrote this volume of memoirs, followed by a sequel called Eros, der Sinn Meines Lebens [Eros: The Meaning of My Life], which was published in 1931.
