[Geneva]: Excudebat Henricus Stephanus, 1577.. 8vo, (xvi), 72, 134 pp. Printer's woodcut device to the title page, some light foxing, title browned with some small ink marks. Contemporary dappled calf with a central decorative blind stamped panel, a little worn, outer edge of lower cover darkened, recently rebacked with a maroon spine label. The text is printed in Greek with the notes in both Greek and Latin. "...he was the chief of the elegiac poets... imitated by Ovid, Catullus and especially Propertius. The extant hymns are especially learned..." (Ency. Brit). Adams C232. Brunet I 1480, erroneously calling for 144 pages and noting that this was the first time part of the Epigrams and the fragments had been printed.

[n.p., c.1865].. 8vo. Title and 26 unnumbered leaves. Cloth backed red card boards. Contemporary ownership inscription of a Miss J. Torrens Roy of Skirbeck Rectory, Boston (Lincolnshire) to lower corner of title page. Title with a circular vignette illustration, each of the subsequent leaves with a black and white illustration. Covers worn and creased, contents generally very good. A version of Calverley's poem "A.B.C." and effectively an illustrated alphabet - "A was the Angel of 'charming eighteen;'", "B was the Ball where the Angel was seen" and so forth. Calverley's name and the real title of the poem do not appear anywhere in the volume, the title page bears that above and the author's name as Gandab, the illustator is given as "G.C.R."

London: Printed... by Rouland Hall for Humfrey Toye dwelling in Paules Churche yearde at the signe of the Helmette, 1562.. First English edition. Small 4to. (10), 32, 32-68, 99-100, 1-42, [3] ff. Six leaves (D3-E4) with slight loss to the lower corners just clipping the text, now sensitively repaired and the missing characters expertly filled in by hand to style, three leaves (F1, Ee2 and Ee3) supplied in close matching facsimile, recent period style vellum, gilt lettered red label. An attractive copy of a scarce work. John Shute's first English translations of two important early works relating to the Ottoman Empire: Cambini's "Commentario... della Origine de Turchi" and Paolo Giovio's account of the wars between the Turks and the Albanians led by Skanderbeg. Cambini's work was first published in 1529, two years after his death, Giovio's in 1531, with several Italian editions of each appearing in succeeding decades. Publisher's green cloth gilt to the spines, volumes III, V and VII with the gilt crest of Sutton High School for Girls on the upper cover having evidently been given as prizes. Illustrations in the text. The cloth of volumes VIII and X somewhat darkened and in places a little cockled, otherwise a decent set.

There it goes in English..." (dated 1968), and then to Wesker in 1981 - "...you surely don't remember this book, but I much rather prefer you to have it than Ken..." and in a side note "I hate the drawings!", Wesker's ownership inscription appears on the half title, dated the same month as the author's gift. Some wear to the jacket, else very good.
