London: Bliss, Sands and Foster, 1894. [Feminist Literature] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.491; [1]. Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper board. All edges untrimmed. Browning and very light spotting to edges and preliminaries. Neat later ownership to title page, blind bookseller's stamp to rear flyleaf. Light rubbing and a few marks to cloth. Very good. The best-known novel by the early Feminist author and essayist, who wrote extensively on marriage and the status of women in society during the 1880's and 1890's. All her novels are rare, there being no copies of this title recorded as sold at auction, no copies currently for sale (March 2019), and no UK first…
