Each issue invites an artist or artists to create and design the issue, making it a hybrid of a periodical and an artists' book. This issue was devoted to work by Donald Baechler. Fine.

Chicago: Fantasy Bargain House, 1946. 4to, [16] pp, mimeographed from typescript on various colors of paper stock and stapled once at the upper left hand corner. An unnumbered catalog from the antiquarian booksellers who specialized in Fantasy literature, offering 871 items, from Achmed Abdullah's Steel and Jade to P.B. Young's Cold Harbour. No descriptive notes whatsoever,but an intesting window into the trade and reading habits surrounding fantasy literature in the immediate postwar period. Folded once, with some additional creasing and some marginal tears and chipping to the last leaf, else very good.

Los Angeles: Utopic Furnace Press, 1990. First edition. Oblong 64mo, [8] pp, saddle-stapled wraps. Prints a poem by the Canadian poet and member of the Parliament Street Librarty poetry group, published In Memoriam, shortly after his death due to complications after being stabbed while working as a taxi driver. Fine.

Brussels: Streven, 1966. 8vo, pp. 994-954, saddle-stapled wraps. Illustated with black and white photographs 7 reproductions. Text in Dutch. An offprint from Streven, the Belgian art magazine, printing the account of a night with Arman. OCLC locates no holdings. Very good with some creasing to tips and some light toning internally.

Münster [actually Berlin]: Aurin Verlang, 1987. 16mo, 78 [2] pp, perfect bound in illustrated wraps. Text in German. Prints the title work by Benjamin as well as his essay on Lebel, and Werner Fuld's essay Die Aura. This little book concludes by reprinting item no. 4 item with a reset title page and the addition of footnotes. Edited by "Detlef Holz", and likely connected with the raubdruck of Passagen-Werk which was issued under the same name. References: von Olenhusen, Der Weg ... 15. Not in Brodersen. Near fine with some light foxing to the wraps.

Paris: J.-B. Baillière et Fils, 1869. First edition. 8vo, viii, 184 pp, printed wrappers. With 8 pp. publisher's catalog laid in at rear. Inscribed by the author at the title page, with a faint, almost imperceptible rubberstamp beneath the signature. Text in French. A rare inscribed copy of the first edition of one of the most influential 19th century scientific studies of tattoos and tattooing, which also had an influence on modern medicine and the study of infection by microorganisms. Berchon was a navy doctor, who based his research on the increasing numbers of tattooed sailors in the French navy. In 1861 Berchon observed the transmission of syphilis from one soldier to another, who claimed to be a virgin. Berchon decided that the disease had been transmitted through spit in the act of tattooing, and as a result the French navy begin to discourage or prohibit tattooing - one element in the driving of the art underground. Washington DC [Actually Healdsburg, CA]: National Endowment for the Domestic Arts / Zephyrus Image, 1977. First edition. 6 3/4 x 9" sheet, letterpress printed with two linocuts. A proof, or unused single sheet from the first edition of Berlin's debut as a writer, which preceded the publication of Angel's Laundromat by four years. The book came about after Berlin sent the manuscript - originally entitled "Suicide Note, A Manual" to Ed Dorn. Her letter, which is quoted in Johnston, mentions scathing rejection letters, and concludes "P.S. 42 days sober Think I'm going to make it. Hard to write without Jim Beam, on the other hand I can read what I wrote the next day." [Johnston, p. 126]. It is fortunate, perhaps that the story was rejected elsewhere, for the book that, Holbrook Teter, Michael Myers and Dorn created a striking book in which all the details of the publication resonate intimately with the text of the story, giving it the feel of a truly collaborative artists' book. The scarce first edition of this roman a clef describing postwar life in the St. Ives artist commune after the war, a period in which "'some of us seemed to be caught in the slip-stream of evil forces which often follow destruction." The book was withdrawn shortly after publication due to four libel suits which followed, which didn't end up in court but did effectly shut down the publication of the book, which in 2009 became the basis of the 2009 Tate show of the same name. The book is a sequel of sorts to his earlier, superb novel I Am Lazarus - on of the great memoirs of the last century of war. A near fine example, with some light foxing to upper edge of text block and boards, and the previous ownership signature of Margaret Aldiss to first blank. (Note: The cover states Thirty-two engravings, while the title page states thirty-four.) Soiling to wraps, with the paper covering the spine largely gone, but the binding still firm. Tidemarking affects the lower third of the book to varying degrees throughout.

One of a limited edition of 700 numbered copies, though this one unnumbered and out of series. Artist book of concrete poetry and drawings. Some creasing and light soiling to wraps, but a very good example.

Paris: Gallimard, 1932. First edition thus. 8vo, 285 pp, photographically illustrated wraps. Translated from the American by M. Lemierre. First French edition, this copy marked as a press copy (S.P., or Service de Presse). The first French edition of Jack Black's masterpiece, a proto-beat novel and massive influence on underground literature ever since. The design of the French edition is far more suitable to the "beat" feel of the novel than the U.S. edition, eaturing an unnatributed sepia photograph of a man in a prison cell on the cover. The back cover features a photograph of a blown safe. 1 1/2" closed tear at foot of front panel at spine, some light creasing and darkening to the spine, short creases to tips, but otherwise a relatively clean and well-preserved very good example of a fragile book.

Los Angeles: Dawson's Book Shop, 1980. 8vo, saddle-stapled wraps. Illustrated with black and white illustrations. With a foreward by Steve Tabor. Bookseller catalog devoted to a collection of more than 1200 engraved wood blocks used by McLoughlin Brothers for children's books and games issued by the firm. A gorgeous and remarkable catalog - the illustrations having been made by printing with each block on a handpress in the book shop, and then making photocopies upon which the catalog illustrations were made. Short nick to crown and a light bend to cover. Near fine.

Superb issue of the Belgian avant-garde and Surrealist little magazine, notable for including a double-paged reproduction in color of the painting 'La Cascade,' with a text about the work by Marcel Lecomte, a reproduction of a work by Rudolf Hausner on the cover, and texts by Magritte, Jacques Wergifosse, and André Pierre de Mandiargues. A hint of toning, else fine.

Early Hacker guide oriented towards beginners, the dedicated to Jerry Rubin, which begins by printing Cheshire Catalyst's Hacker Hymn (which first appeared in T.A.P.). Includes material on the social ethics of hacking as well as nuts and bolts information on DATEX-P numbers, directories, hardware, etc. Bouteiller was also the co-author of a FORTH programming language guide. Spine cocked, with a small closed tear at foot of spine, light page toning within. Very good.
