Description:
New York: Dial, 1968 I can't remember when I first became aware of Joan Baez, but it must have been one of those wonderful 60's or 70's times shared with good friends, good music and peace movement involvement. This is a first printing of her first memoir, written in 1968 and dedicated to young war resistors in prison. The pages are a bit toned and the front board is not pristine, but it is signed and in very good condition in an even better unclipped dust jacket with $3.95 cover price. See attached scans.

Description:
New York: Lippincott, 1960 Augusta Braxton Baker was "a lioness of children's literature" according to Wikipedia. She made a point of selecting these folktales from around the world to reintroduce because the books they were in were out-of-print and she wanted them to be more accessible. You will note her title at the end of the introduction: Storytelling and Group Work Specialist, The New York Public Library. She was the first African-American hired in administration at the New York Public Library, and set to work to find children's books which presented black people in a more favourable light. She is big in the storytelling literature. The book in question is a Lippincott Longlife Binding. No library markings. There are two marks on front end paper which may have been left by a bookplate. Terrific cover and some black and white illustrations by Joh. Troyer. This is a 4th printing of the 1960 editiion, Rubbing to corners but still attractive, square and sturdy.

San Diego, California, U.S.A.: Gulliver Books, 1996 First Edition, first printing, full letter line A to E, no DJ as issued, v. light rub to corners, no writing or marks. Awardwinning illustrator tackles water pollution in the Chattanooga: a thrilling story about an experiment using a "Living Machine," illustrated with the author's collages. I don't know if this book was successful at all. Everyone's heard of Molly Bang, but I had not heard of this book, and after 14 years that is very disappointing. Worse, when I typed "Chattanooga Sludge" into the Search bar on Wikipedia, I was directed to the story of a 2008 eco disaster, a fly ash sludge spill in the Tennessee Valley Area. On her website, Molly Bang says, "Chattanooga Sludge didn¿t sell well at all and now it¿s out of print. Did it not sell because it is too complicated for young children? Because it¿s a science book? Because it came out 15 years before people began to be really worried… Read More
