Front hinge mildly cracked but binding remains firm on the whole. Split binding at page 704.

Title page has fully detached from binding. Top text-block edge is browned and soiled. Boards are lightly soiled, with worn corners and softened, frayed spine ends. Gilt lettering and deco on front cover and spine is clear and unfaded. Binding is starting throughout and cracked near center. Hinges are secure.

American Book Company, 1918. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/None. First edition. Pages are tanned, and several have minor foxing. Front pastedown bears previous owner's inscription in black and blue ink. Text block edges are tanned and soiled. Boards are soiled and edgeworn, with bumped, worn corners and softened, frayed spine ends. Spine is sunned and has tape residue. Black lettering and deco on spine is faded but still fully legible. Binding is starting throughout. Hinges are secure.

First two signatures are loose and both hinges are cracked. Binding loosening in various places throughout. Boards corners are bumped and starting to fray. Spine ends are lightly chipped and fraying with small rips at top of spine and front gutter. Surfaces are wrinkling due to water damage.

Faint liquid mark to front cover, otherwise boards remain quite clean though with some wear around the edges. Corners and spine ends bumped, softened and mildly fraying. Both hinges cracked. Previous owner's inscription on front endpaper and some very sparse markings in margins of text, otherwise all pages are clean and unmarked. Smells faintly of smoke.
