Book measures 225mm x 140mm approximately.
Handsomely bound in full speckled tan calf. Spine (possibly later) with five raised gilt-ruled bands with elaborate blind-tooled decorative work to gilt-boxed compartments and title and author in gilt. Single gilt fillet border to both boards. Series of anatomical and biological engraved illustrations throughout. Sand coloured end-papers and paste-downs.
CONDITION
In overall very good condition with binding firm and strong. Boards have a few minor scuffs, light surface scratches, with moderate bumping to corners. The spine has a lighter olive colour (again, possibly later). Previous owner bookplate central to front paste-down.
Internally the pages are very clean throughout with just a few occasional spots and light foxing towards end-papers.

Nicely bound in period medium tan half calf over marbled boards. Spine with five gilt-ruled bands with elaborate gilt decoration and motifs to compartments, and twin russet title and author labels. Tissue-guarded portrait frontispiece to each volume. Top edges in gilt.
CONDITION
Both bindings are holding tight. The front boards of each volume are a little loose with early stage cracks but still holding quite firm. Boards exhibit some surface marks and small losses of leather to corners, also knocks and chips to edges with minor wear to hinges and board edges. Small ink notation and previous owner bookplate to front paste-down of each volume.

CONDITION
The binding is holding quite firm. A one inch crack to the upper front hinge. Some small losses to top of spine. A few nicks and scuffs to boards and some mild bumping to board corners. Internally the pages are generally clean throughout, with just a few random spots and a little light browning to end-papers.
Overall, a lovely tight little volume in good condition.
