First edition thus; folio; [10], 280, 279-578, 557, [1]pp. In period style nineteenth century full panelled calf (with only the lightest of wear), spine with five raised spine bands, gilt lettered red morocco spine label to second compartment, blind decoration to remaining compartments. Complete with portrait frontispiece. Catalogue of Plays on A4 with early ink page numbers added, short closed tear to leaf 3C1 not affecting text and leaf 3N1 touching a few letters without loss, small burn hole on leaf 3O3 not affecting text, small and mainly marginal wormhole to final few leaves just touching the odd letter, very occasional light spots and stains with unobtrusive feint damp stain to inner margin of final few quires, without 4A4 (blank leaf). Second edition, 8vo; [8], 310pp. In contemporary early eighteenth century panelled calf with five raised spine bands (front board detached, rear hinge split with board attached by two of three cords, wear to extremities with minor loss to spine ends and board corners), front free endpaper detached, closed tear and marginal chipping to tile page without loss of text, sporadic light soiling and staining, occasional early marginal ink inscriptions, early ownership inscription to front free endpaper ("Penny Hancock's Book"), early eighteenth century ink manuscript list of farm produce and prices to rear pastedown. First edition, octavo; [24],170,[2]pp. In contemporary full leather (a little worn), double gilt fillet to board margins, five raised spine bands, gilt lettered labels to second and third compartments, hairline split to head and foot of front hinge (with hinge remaining firmly secure), opening and closing leaves stained by turn ins, old ink ownership name to head of title page, otherwise a clean copy with attractive woodcut headpieces and capitals. The title page declares this volume's price as 3s 6d., adding that two volumes of Boileau's non-posthumous works may be had for 12s. This example was bound up as a companion to these two volumes and though it bears a "vol.3"spine label, is nevertheless a separate work.
