A livre d'artiste illustrated with 37 original etchings by Edy-Legrand, one of the greatest and most underrated graphic artists and book-illustrators of the 20th century. Includes 25 full-page hors-texte etchings and 12 smaller etchings. The justification mentions 166 copies in all, including 20 on Imperial Japan paper, and says nothing about the existence of extra suites. This is a special copy printed on Imperial Japan paper with an extra suite of the 25 hors-texte etchings, and an extra suite of the 12 smaller etchings printed without text, all on Japan paper. 4to, original wraps. Suites wrapped separately in rice paper. Fine and bright. Housed in the original chemise and slipcase.

Original printed wraps. Minor wear to wraps, else fine. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE BOOK, PERHAPS THE ONLY SURVIVING COPY. Not in Palau.

ONE OF ONLY 25 LARGE-PAPER COPIES OF THE FIRST AND ONLY EDITION of this poetic yet precise account of the author's travels. 3, VI, 7-339 pp. + frontispiece portrait of author. One of only 25 copies printed on fine Dap-Cau wove paper, made in Vietnam. 8vo. Elegantly bound in three-quarters red morocco and decorated boards, with spine gilt in five compartments. Original wraps and backstrip preserved. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Some wear to extremities of binding, else FINE AND BRIGHT. Large paper copies are very rare.

Nice: Jacques Matarasso, 1991. A stunning little livre d'atiste, beautifully printed in red and violet on extremely fine wove paper. The wrapper is a double-sided original watercolor (50 x 17.5 cm) by Julius Baltazar. The text is a letter from Arrabal to Baltazar, printed here for the first time. From a total edition of 62 numbered copies signed by Arrabal, this is COPY NUMBER 3, ONE OF ONLY 17 COPIES WITH AN ADDITIONAL SIGNED FULL-PAGE, LOOSE WATERCOLOR BY BALTAZAR, WITH A MANUSCRIPT TEXT BY ARRABAL, SIGNED BY HIM AS WELL. 12mo. Loose as issued in wrapper. FINE AND BRIGHT, AS NEW WITH NO DEFECTS.

Paris: A. Blaizot, 1910. THE PUBLISHER'S GALLEY PROOFS OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THIS POSTHUMOUS COLLECTION OF BALZAC'S NOTES. XXXIX, 167 pp (wanting half-title and title, as with French proof copies in general). The first page of each quire is stamped with the date it had to be returned, corrected (May 10 to June 2 for the main text, later in June for the preface and introduction). Manuscript notes and corrections in Blaizot's hand. A note on p. 1 of the main text is INITIALED IN INK BY BLAIZOT. Paper darkened but supple, as usual with proof copies of the period. 8vo. Bound in half morocco and marbled boards, likely for Blaizot. Binding worn but structurally solid and still attractive. Likely the earliest surviving copy of this Balzac first edition.

Nürnberg (Nuremberg): Homann, 1730. A stunning antique map with original full color, in excellent condition. 49.5 x 59 cm (plate), 52.5 x 60.5 cm (sheet). Printed on fine laid paper. Verso blank. Archival tape reinforcement to edges of verso. In perfect condition, with the colors very fresh.

1951. A sheet of wove paper (12 x 10 cm) SIGNED by chanteuse Lucienne Delyle and inscribed and SIGNED by her husband, jazzman Aimé Barelli. Dated July 19, 1951. From the exemplary collection of maître d'hôtel Maurice Guérin, who worked from the 1930s to the 1960s at top restaurants in the South of France and aboard the S.S. Normandie. Minor adhesive remains on verso, else in excellent condition. A UNIQUE AND FASCINATING ITEM.

Lille: F. Bracke, 1848. FIRST AND ONLY EDITION of this rare provincial imprint. 80 pp. A SPECIAL COPY ENTIRELY PRINTED ON PINK WOVE PAPER. The only other copy I have been able to locate (on regular paper) is in the Bibliotheque Nationale (Paris). The first part comprises critical commentaries, mainly concerning contemporary actresses. The second part is a collection of poems on various subjects, including "Les chemins de fer", surely among the first poems ever devoted to railroads. This poem predicts that with the benefits of this mode of transportation, France will ultimately reign over the world. Small 8vo. Original wraps. Entirely uncut. Light soiling to wraps, else a pristine copy of a very rare book.
