Interior generally VG+ but for insect damage to the first 19 pages at the lower margin of the Spanish text (also in English and Portuguese, which are not affected). Very little interference with legibility, and all of maps/charts are intact. This was an unusual atlas, preparted with a specific eye to world trade expansion post World War I. This atlas deals with Mexico, Central and SOuth America. There are 35 printed color maps, the initial one being an index map with all existing trade routes. The binding is customized with the owners last name (Meyers) in gilt at the bottom of the spines, with spine titles listed as "Atlas Municipal de Minas Geraes.". The volumes are 356 pp. each, both with "indices" and "errata." Many colored thematic maps of various regions of Brazil, along with accompanying demographic, agricultural and other forms of data. Alvord was at the Univ. of Illinois when he wrote this, with the intent of giving credit to early Virginians in these explorations. Sections include the dicovery of the Ohio waters, discovery of New Brittaine, discoveries of John Lederer, the role of Governor Berkeley as a promoter of these explorations, the Batts & Fallam expedition, the journeys of Needham and Arthur and more (including a memorandum by John Locke pertaining to the latter journeys). Illustrated by maps of explorations, facsimile of John Ledere's map and others (not heavily illustrated). This is a nice early historical account of the subject.. Cloth.
