Some rubbing to the edges of the boards but overall a very good copy of this famous work.

Laurence binders of london, in early half burgundy calf. Spine with five raised band. Compartments ruled in blind and lettered and decorated in gilt. Red cloth on boards. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Gilt stamped school coat of arms of Owen's School Islington to the front board. Prize label, dated 1939, on the front inner board. A very good, attractive copy.

Arthur L. Humphreys. London. 1897. Large 8vo. (8.7 x 7.2 inches). A circular brown mark to the outer margin of four leaves, otherwise a clean and bright copy in a fine early binding, for Hatchards of Piccadilly, probably by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, but not signed. Full brown morocco. Spine with five raised bands. Compartments lettered, double ruled and decorated with triple dot corner design in gilt. Both boards with double ruled gilt outer borders and double ruled inner panel design with dots to the outer line and floral design, with green dyed centre dots, in each corner. Title lettered in gilt to front board. Board edges ruled in gilt. Inner boards with triple gilt ruled borders to the turn-ins. All edges gilt. Previous owner's armorial bookplate to the front paste down endpaper. A very attractive copy. --- This edition omits the fourth book of this work, concerning the Roman Catholic mass.

(5.5 x 3.6 inches).36pp. Fold out plate opposite title page with full page frontispiece and six half page woodcuts, all finely hand coloured, and one small woodcut of the goat on the title page. Neat inscription, dated 1843, to the title page. Printed light pink card wrapper with black lettering, lattice design and decorative border on both panels. Dark green inner paper printed with publishers adverts, including this title, advertised at six shillings. A little creasing to the corners and th covers a little dusty but overall a very good bright example of this rare little book. ---- The BL catalogue gives an estimated date of 1820. --- Dean and Munday were located at this address from 1808 to 1847. - Brown, P.A.H. Harris and Son. London. 1820. FIRST EDITION. 12mo. (7 x 4.3 inches). 36pp. Illustrated with hand coloured vignette to the title page and 12 hand coloured woodcuts among the text. Some general thumbing and spotting to most pages. The hand colouring is still bright and vivid throughout. Dis-bound, but complete, in original fawn card boards, printed in black. The boards are rubbed and worn, making some the the printed area quite faint, and there are a few stains. Previous owner names and gift inscriptions, one dated 1820, on the inner front board. ---- Rare in first edition. Worldcat lists just 3 copies of this 1820 first edition, one in the UK, that in the Renier collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and 2 in the USA; The Eloise Ramsey collection at Wayne University in Detroit, and a rebound copy in the Bloomington Lilly Library at Indiana University. --- The author name, Mrs Poole (active between 1808 and 1823) is supplied by Marjorie Moon in her checklist of Harris publications. This is a fine copy of Milne's first children's book in the publishers blue cloth with gilt lettering and illustrations. Illustrated endpapers. Top edge gilt. The book looks unread. In a very good original illustrated dustwrapper which has some chipping to top and tail of spine, which is also a little toned. Overall a highly desirable copy of Milne's children's classic.

Methuen & Co. London. 1929. EARLY PRINTING. Ninth edition. 8vo. Same format as the first edition of 1926. Illustrated throughout with wonderful line drawings by E. H. Shepard. Decorative map endpapers printed in black on green paper. Top edge gilt. A very good, bright copy in the original green cloth, with gilt stamped decorations of Christopher Robin and Pooh to front board. Gilt still very bright. Cloth is marked to the top of the front board and a few spots to the rear but is generally very clean and fresh. A remarkable tight, fresh clean and unmarked copy throughout. The book looks unread. A lovely copy in original illustrated better than very good dustwrapper showing some minor creasing to the top edge but overall a verry clean and bright example. A superior early copy of this classic.

Anderson, was orignally published in 1799. Six full page engravings, including portrait frontis of Cook. Complete. Previous owners named scratched out on the title page, without any loss to the page. Bound in contemporary full reversed calf. Spine with raised bands, ruled in blind. Red title label, ruled and lettered in gilt. Loss to the top f the spine, exposing the headband, which is loose. 2 inch chip to the top of the front blank endpaper. Overall avery good copy in an early calf binding. :

Half titles present in all three volumes. Two leaves duplicated and incorrectly inserted into the end of volume two, namely 2 pages from the index which appears in volume 3 have been bound in in error, one where page 513/4 should be (easy to see how, both leaves share the signature Ll), the other at the end of the text where a blank should be, and the two leaves of Appendix are bound in the wrong order but complete. A neat previous owner name to the top of the title page in volume 3. Some foxing and offsetting of the text block to a few leaves in each volume, particularly the first pages of volume one, but overall a very good set. A companion to Adamson's A Finding Alphabet. Top and bottom of spine a little bumped but overall very good in a very good dustwrapper which reproduces the illustrated boards. An uncommon title.:

Beautifully illustrated throughout with over 100 fine engravings by Heighway. Tissue guard to the frontis. Some minor offsetting to the blank endpapers otherwise a fine and clean copy throughout. In the original publishers burgundy cloth binding with printed paper label to the spine. The spine is a bit faded but this is still a lovely copy of this scarce volume. With an attractive Art Nouveau bookplate of Christie Chetwynd Atkinson, decorated and illustrated with two women reading, by M.C. Fisher, dated 1902, on the front pastedown endpaper.

A very good book in a fine attractive leather binding of full red Morocco. Spine with five raised bands. The compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Gilt inner dentelles. Top edge gilt. Decorative patterned endpapers printed in green, black and red. A hint of rubbing to the extremities but overall a near fine copy. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder.

Some very mild foxing to fore edges and some light offsetting to the endpapers from the dustwrapper but overall a bright, clean and fresh copy in publishers dark green cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt. In the original colour illustrated dustwrapper with striking designs by Beresford Egan to the panels, spine and rear inner flap. A small area of loss to the very top of the spine, which is a bit toned, and some tiny chips to the extremities but overall a superior and un-restored example of this fabulous wrapper. Near fine book in a better than very good wrapper.

Overall an attractive set of eighteenth century bindings. Previous owners bookplate on front paste downs.

Decorative flower and leaf designs to both boards, within a wavy line border which is surrounded by multiple stars, within a ruled line border, all in gilt. Elaborate gilt tooled stars, flowers and decorative roll borders to the inner boards with off-white moire silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Previous owners neat inscription, dated 1914, to the front blank free endpaper. Spine faded to an attractive tan colour and the front board to a lighter green but still a beautiful fine binding from the library of W. A.
