The Campaign Guide was first issued by the Scottish National Union in preparation of the 1892 General Election. The book was fully re-written for each subsequent General Election & this 10th edition contains all the relevant policy & party views of the Boer War in South Africa. The purpose of the book was to bring together Policy & Manifesto for the Conservative & Unionist activists & give them a sound historical grounding in the previous Governments. An interesting historical document.

Full cats paw calf, G. 2 volumes, tp, engraved title page, [iv]+620+[52]pp, tp+[ii]+557+[42]pp, marbled endpapers, attractive head & tail pieces, corners bumped but sturdily & attractively bound. Curious hole & tear to the gutter of 50pp in volume I with the LOSS of text to 20pp ( the hole becomes larger until it is a large tear across the page & then decreases in size ) pp101-110 the most affected with loss of several lines of text, occasional ink splash & burn mark, an attractively bound, but sadly damaged set. The play is based upon the plot of Schiller's Turandot ( although the author admits that 'before the play was completed it had become so altered that its origin might be somewhat difficult to recognise" ). It was reviewed thus in the Westminster Review of 1879 : ‘The Prince's Triumph’ does not aim very high, but at all events it hits its mark, and this is no small achievement amidst so many ambitious failures. It is, in fact, a drama for young people, very carefully worked out, full of interesting situations, and characterised by much dramatic power.
