Description:
New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1988. First Edition. 225pp. Octavo [21.5 cm] 1/2 black cloth over red boards with the title gilt stamped on the backstrip. Near fine/Near fine. Signed by Abbey on the front free endsheet in the year of publication. Collection of essays by the celebrated curmudgeon. Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was a celebrated author, essayist, conservationist, noted pain-in-the-ass, and in many ways the father (or at the very least, uncle) of the modern environmental movements. "This book consists of a collection of pieces, most written on commission from some magazine editor, book publisher, or college speakers bureau. Whether or not each piece rises to the occasion I leave for the reader to judge. All were written for money, in the higher, finer sense of that ambiguous term - I have a wife, an ex-wife, several children, a dog, a cat, a mortgaged house, and a 1973 Ford pickup truck to support - and all were written for fun.

Description:
Albuquerque: University of New Mexico Press, 1977. First Edition Thus. 277pp. Octavo [20 cm] Yellow printed wrappers. Very good. Gentle sunning to backstrip. Introduction by Neal E. Lambert. Although largely ignored by the critics when it was first published in 1956, The Brave Cowboy has since attained the status of a minor classic of Western literature. Set in a thinly disguised Albuquerque, New Mexico, this anarchist fable is perhaps best known as the source of the superb "adult western" movie Lonely Are the Brave.

Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1975. First Edition. 352pp. Octavo [23.5 cm] 1/2 red cloth over black boards. Map endsheets and pastedowns. Very good/Very good. Jacket is price clipped. This work is regarded Abbey's most famous and influential novel, that follows the deeds and adventures of Doc, Hayduke, Bonnie, and Seldom Seen, as they protest the industrialization and destruction of the southwest through means of sabotage and "monkeywrenching." Because of this work, the term 'monkeywrench' has come to mean, besides sabotage and damage to machines, any sabotage, activism, lawmaking, or lawbreaking to preserve wilderness, wild spaces and ecosystems. Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was a celebrated author, essayist, conservationist, noted pain-in-the-ass, and in many ways the father (or at the very least, uncle) of the modern environmental movements. Norman: Arthur H. Clark Company, 2011. First Edition. 518pp. Octavo [24.5 cm] Blue cloth with the title silver stamped on the front board and backstrip. Near fine. Signed by all three editors on the half-title. Volume 13 in the ambitious and well received 'Kingdom in the West' series. This collection of narratives by four individuals who abandoned Mormonism—"apostates," as Brigham Young and other Latter-day Saint leaders labeled them—provides an overview of dissent from the beginning of the religion to the early twentieth century and presents a wide range of disaffection with the faith or its leaders. Instead of focusing on a single disheartened individual or sect, this collection includes dissenters with different motivations and a wide range of experiences. Some devout Mormon converts, finding Brigham Young's implementation of the Kingdom of God disillusioning, turned their backs on religion in general. Yet most never lost their love for their fellow Mormons or their longing for the ideal…
