First edition of the author's first book. An anomalous inclusion on the Olympia list, I Hear Voices is a modernist take on the story of a mentally ill man, confined to bed, trying to make sense of his life; Olympia's subscribers will have searched in vain for the nymphomaniacs and dominatrices usually to be found in this imprint's output. Abelman went on to write for television: his later credits include Dixon Of Dock Green. Kearney:5.60.1.

First edition of this collection of characteristically unnerving short stories, by the most singular author ever to work for the Inland Waterways Association. An excellent copy.

A little spotting to top edge of text block, but a near fine copy in a better than very good dustwrapper, slightly darkened, some faint spotting to spine and just a little wear to the spine head. First edition of the author's second novel. Amis père is currently out of literary favour -- which makes now a good time to gather him up, since he is far too important a figure and far too good a writer to be forgotten permanently. A superior copy of an early title.

The impossibly prolific Michael Avallone [1924-1999] wrote countless short stories, novels and movie and TV tie-ins, under an army of pseudonyms. The Ed Noon series ran to more than thirty titles; this was number six. There is never any danger of mistaking Avallone for Chekhov: the title character of The Case of the Bouncing Betty is a four hundred pound mattress tester who, according to the blurb, 'jumps on one mattress too many, and comes to a sudden and distressing end.'
