Printed at recto & verso. ¶ A most charming poster, in Art-Deco style, after a watercolour by Abbott, that great American illustrators of commercial art. Probably issued as an advertisement sheet for the printing art of Rusling Wood in "Printer's Ink Monthly".

Paris,: Grangé & Didot,, 1770 & 1783.. 365, [iii] for Ailhaud; 476, [iv] for the Journal pp. 12mo (10,5 x 17,5 cm.). Contemporary half calf, gilt lettered on red & black morocco label (joints worn; some rubbing, top of spine slightly damaged). A rare ensemble. Ailhaud, the greatest of all French quackers, became famous for his "Poudre". He established selling points in the major cities of France and Germany and gained a fortune with his patented "poudre". According to Jourdan, the nostrum was composed from resin, soot, and scammony. Ailhaud powders are said to have destroyed as many people as Napoleon's campaigns. After Ailhaud's dead, the quackery was successfully continued by his son Jean-Gaspard. --(The title page of Ailhaud has a small hole, not affecting the text; else some scattered light staining or foxing).

Nicely printed by Yerna-Dewitte of Liège in red and sepia (the illustrations). L'Air Liquide was (and still is) a major producer of industrial and medical gases.

Contempoarary half calf, spine gilt decorated and gilt lettered on orange morocco label (some slight rubbings; 2 small traces of rodent bites), marbled boards. With 5 folded engraved plates of which 4 very engravings of cinchona species. The second, much expanded, edition of Alibert's thesis, the founder of the modern French school of dermatology. A 5th. edition was published in 1819. Bayle/Thilay II, 935. "La Thèse inaugurale d'Alibert sur les 'Fièvres intermittentes perniceuses' eur un grand retentissement. Revue et complétée, elle obtint jusqu'a cinq éditions successives' (Dechambre). The first edition was published in 1800 and has only 159 pages and 1 plate.

Original printed wrappers (partly slightly damaged, dust soiled, edges slightly frayed), uncut. With one fine folded lithographed plate printed by P.W. de Weijer. ¶ Probably the most comprehensive history on the subject (intestional remedies). Many references are made to Abyssinia and earlier authors on 'Hagenia abyssinica' (flores Koso).

Altenburg,: Hofbuchdruckerei,, 1856.. xx, 239, [i] pp. 8vo (14 x 22,5 cm.). Original printed wrappers (dust soiled), uncut and unopened. In 1796, the Duce of Altenburg, Ernst II and his minister Thümmel ordered measures to improve the conditions of the poor, established health care for the poor, and a hospital was build (1802). The promising young Dr. Wilhelm Hagen became the first director of this charitable event. Unfortunately, his early dead in March 1800 abruptly ended his great devotion to poor relief. His library of 560 volumes was donated to the "Directorium des Armenwesens" as a gift for the hospital of Altenburg, and formed the basis for this interesting library, which counted in 1856 about 1600 titles. Only 5 copies in the WorldCat, chiefly in German libraries.
