194 p. This seems to be a specially bound copy of the amended charter, given not only the name permanently bound into the front cover (Mr. John Caulfield, the calf leather, but also the fact that every page of the charter is interleaved with a buffer page. The spine is firm, the hinges are solid, and the pages are clean and sound and crisp. The edges of the cover are a little worn but overall in remarkably good condition. The 1900 charter is here in full; it was presented by the Common Council chaired by Chas. E. Flandrau; the two-page amendment was presented by James E. Markham, president of that commission. Contains index.

The Doctor's Diet is the cure to unhealthy eating — an American epidemic with a death toll higher than that of car accidents, drug abuse, smoking, and gun violence combined. Dr. Stork is genuinely concerned about what he considers to be a true crisis. He has created a flexible and workable diet plan that will help readers lose weight, restore health, prevent disease and ultimately add years to their lives. In the book, Dr. Stork explains all of the potentially fatal health risks associated with an unhealthy diet and the specific food groups that can act as medicines to attain immediate results. Flexibility is built into the recipes in order to accommodate all different diets and skill levels, from meat lovers to vegetarians and chefs to non-cooks. In The Doctor's Diet , Dr. Stork outlines the steps to a healthier life with encouragement, personal anecdotes, and a passionate sense of urgency to rescue the reader from diet-related demise.

Grimaldi, [Giacomo], Descrizione della Basilica Antica di S. Pietro in Vaticano Codice Barberini Latino 2733. Edizione e Note a Cura di Reto Niggl. Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, 1972. Vol. XXXII of Codices e Vaticanis Selecti quam simillime expressi iussu Pauli PP.VI. Consilio et Opera Curatorum Bibliotecae Vaticanae. [xx; 563; indice 1 leaf]. Typus POLYGLOTTIS Vaticanis, MCMLXXII. A large book, 41 cm x 21 cm, bound in beige cloth stamped with Vatican insignia, still encased in original paper slipcase, as issued. Spine slightly sun spotted, but otherwise, this copy is as new. A magnificent copy of the ur-text on the history of Old St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
Illustrated profusely and footnoted throughout, this is a vital text for art and architecture historians * for the information provided by the sketches by Giacomo Grimaldi of the papal tombs in old St. Peter's Basilica. The 29th of May 1620, Grimaldi presented the manuscript to Pope Paul V in commemoration of the sixteenth anniversary of his papal coronation. Entitled Instrumenta authentica, the work won Grimaldi a pension of 50 scudi a year. The manuscript, once a one-volume work of more than 1,000 pages is now in two volumes. A fragment of the original binding is found in Volume I, which is bound in vellum with gold decoration of a dragon. The division into two volumes took place in the Vatican and is recorded in the register of the Vatican's conservation laboratory. Part I was completed on September 18, 1619 and Part II on May 15, 1620. Part II begins with the discoveries of the pagan and early Christian inscriptions discovered during the demolition. A list of the contemporary sources used by Grimaldi is given in the preface, as is a list of works cited, given in abbreviated form.

New: Unread, bright pages and tight binding. Theodore Roosevelt, the twenty-sixth president of the United States, was not only the most famous hunter of his generation of Americans, he was among its best informed and popular outdoor writers. Edmund Heller, the well-known Smithsonian biologist who accompanied Roosevelt on the famous African expedition, said that the former president was the world's foremost authority on large mammals. He was also an avid bibliophile, and had what may have been the finest big-game library in North America in the early 1900s. He communicated with authorities-- both sportsmen and scientists-- in all parts of the world. From this lifelong study and enthusiasm for outdoor adventure came a host of durable writings, gathered together here in a collection which celebrates the natural world.
