Evidence of removal from an album to left hand side, with slight remnants of paper to the front and glue residue to the reverse, a couple of small spots to text but not affecting sense. Dated 27th November, [18]31, and sent from 1 Curzon Street, Mayfair, Granville states, "Hi, Since my letter of the 20th I succeeded in finding a copy of my work on the Royal Society for which 5/m? ?inquired. Should you desire to ?copy it, please send as many stamps, and I will see it is transmitted to you either by Bookpost or Railway parcel delivery. ?Remain ??? for ?French. A.B. Granville". Modern crushed half morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, raised bands, spine in six panels, title lettered directly to second panel, author and volume to third, year (1755) to foot. Externally very slightly rubbed, but generally very good. Internally the pages are untrimmed, there is a small worm track to 5B4 of volume one, which also has a few corners lightly discoloured; Volume two is often lightly stained (not affecting sense), there are small work tracks to the top margin of signatures Q, R, Z, Aa, Bb and Gg, with a small piece missing from the bottom margin of Xx1 (not affecting text), but generally fairly clean. Name stamp of James Griffin to ffep, otherwise internally quite bright and clean. Born was a German physicist and mathematician, instrumental in the development of quantum mechanics. Hailstone had published earlier in the same year a pamphlet called 'A Dose for the Doctor; or, A Bitter Pill for George Mossman: Containing an Account of His Life and Adventures on this Side of the Tweed' (see Wellcome III:193), apparently exposing the lack of any medical qualifications for George Mossman. Lightly browned and foxed, lightly creased from old folds, minor chipping to edges, especially bottom edge, but without any loss to images or text. The printer was almost certainly F.[rederick] Thorowgood, printing from 42 Wood Street, Cheapside, London (fl. 1810-1834, see BBTI). Rangeley, Doxson and Co. were based in Stone, Staffordshire, and their partnership was dissolved in 1821 (Grace's Guide). Not in COPAC.
