Description:
Single sided printed poster, approximately 335mm x 430mm in size, no publisher (Up Against the Law Collective?), no place, but probably London, and no date, but probably 1972. Single punch hole to head, couple of small splashes of ?tea across the word 'poly', otherwise fairly bright and clean. Noyce calls the magazine they produced "a radical legal rights magazine, with very good coverage of police corruption. Also details of court procedure and legal representation", this is a poster for a benefit concert to raise funds for the group. See Noyce, 'The Directory of British Alternative Periodicals 1965-1974', 1161. First Edition. Unbound. Good. Elephant Folio. Poster.

London: Wyman & Sons, 1879. [9], 2-282pp, [10] advertisements. Original decorative cloth, primrose endpapers. Rebacked, with original back strip laid down with slight loss to original back strip ends, covers lightly rubbed with some light discolouring and some crinkling, corners bumped. Some internal light spotting and staining to margins, small nicks and tears to bottom margin of R4 and S1, previous owners name to front pastedown and head of title. A 'ticket-of-leave' man was a convict released 'on licence'. The anonymous author, "after living up to middle life in the character of a gentleman, and the reputation of an honourable man" (page 1), was sentenced to seven years, and while criticising aspects of the penal system, he is "actuated by no feelings of tenderness for that ruffian class, who, because they will drink and will not work, exist from childhood to old age, by committing outrages upon their fellow-creatures, and by filching from them the proceeds of…

Description:
London: Henry Lintot for J. Worrall, 1749. Two volumes complete - Volume One - [5], ii-viii, 318pp; Volume Two - [10], 319-406, 433-633pp, [31]. Contemporary calf, raised bands, spines in six panels, indistinct paper label to first panels. Worn to extremities with small amounts of loss to leather. Lightly browned internally, small worm track to top margin of second volume, very gradually becoming larger towards the end of the book, catching a couple of letters here and there, but without any real loss of sense. The Clerk of Assises Circuit Companion has a separate dated title page on 2Q5r; pagination and register are continuous. The gap in pagination is not noted in ESTC, but it seems to be complete, the catchword is correct, and it corresponds with the example in ECCO. First published in 1738/9. Maxwell and Maxwell, page 360; with nine locations in ESTC. Second Edition. Hardback. Good. 8vo.

Newcastle: John Sykes, 1823. [5], 2-36pp. Later half roan and marbled paper over boards, title in gilt to spine. Rubbed to extremities, internally the title is foxed, with some light browning and foxing throughout, but tolerably clean. Cresswell to front pastedown. Carr was a constable and watchman in Newcastle, but the jury found for Watson and he was awarded 40s and costs. There was another issue (possibly later, 1828?), with a vignette of Samuel Johnson to the title page, instead of the Newcastle Guildhall as here. Sykes' bookseller sign was 'Johnson's Head', and another printed by George Angus with a frontispiece, in the same year. BL, Aberdeen, and possibly Newcastle in Library Hub. First Edition?. Hardback.
