San Antonio, TX: The Naylor Company, 1955. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with unclipped dust jacket, inscribed and signed by the author on the front end page. The DJ shows scuffing and soiling along with edge bumps/chips/small tears. The blue cloth boards underneath show some bumping and scuffing but are clean overall. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No other signatures, no bookplates, no library markings. There is one serious issue which involves the frontispiece, as it has a large tear at the bottom that measures around 2.25 inches in length. It appears as was caused by somebody trying to race a price that was penciled on the back of the dust jacket, lower corner. All the remaining pages are clean and without issues.

New York: New York Zoetrope, 1977. First US Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Staple bound softcover. Light purple wraps show minor toning along edges as well as light corner wear. No signatures, bookplates, or handwriting found. Only issue noted is the front cover and first page has a small heart punched in the lower right corner. Book is been placed in a protective archival bag.

New York: Whittlesey House / McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc., 1940. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, tan cloth boards with gilt text on spine. Exterior shows moderate handling wear with spotting and soiling present, edges and corners show some bumping and wear. Inscribed and signed by John Grant Mitchell Jr. where he presented the book to the manager (Charles E Slagle) of the Hotel George Mason in Alexandria VA. Grant Mitchell was an American actor who appeared on Broadway from 1902 to 1939 and was in more than 125 films between 1930 and 1948. The internal binding is good though the front board does have a bit of wiggle. The manager's owner stamp is present on both the front and rear boards as well as the title and half title pages. Paper is mildly toned due to age but pages are clean. Copyright page states second printing.

New York: Stein and Day, 1964. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/VG+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. The price is clipped on the front flap. DJ shows minor spotting along with very light edge bumps, there is a small dark rectangle near the upper right corner on the front, presumably from an old price sticker. Cloth and paper boards underneath or clean except for a little bit of spotting on the cloth portion. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight like the book was never read. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks. The only evidence of handwriting is on the front end page, where you could just barely see where a price was once penciled in the corner and then later erased.

London: Frederick Muller, 1952. First English Edition . Hardcover. VG+/Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. The original price of 45/-net is still present on the front flap. DJ shows quite a bit of soiling with numerous chips and tears along the edges. Black cloth boards underneath her clean with only minor handling wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings. The only handwriting found in the book is at the top of the front flap of the dust jacket which has something lightly written in pencil. Pages are overall clean but there are a few scattered smudge marks present. Also, the end pages and pastedowns show spotting and foxing.

New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1929. 17th Printing. Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, lime green cloth boards with black text on front and spine. Exterior shows some spotting soiling and spine is lightly sunned. Corners are sharp with only minimal wear. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks. The only evidence of handwriting is in the upper outside corner of the front end page where you could just make out where a price was once penciled and then later erased. Pages are toned due to age and there is some scattered foxing and spotting present. Copyright page states seventeenth printing, March 1929. This condition is a strong VG, borderline VG+.

Exterior shows light spotting and soiling, spine is mildly toned. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age but are clean, front and rear end pages are quite darkened because of foxing, text pages are not affected by this.

DJ is worn and tattered with numerous chips and tears, the largest being at the spine corners that measure over an inch. Red cloth boards underneath show only minor edge wear and soiling, the worst being a dark spot just above the letter I in the title the internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and there are some smudge marks and scattered foxing present. Title page states "Illustrated with scenes from the Photoplay, a First National picture featuring Dorothy Mackaill".

Book also includes the rare original advertisement bookmarker. The original price of $2.50 is still present on the front flap. DJ shows edge chipping and tears, mainly along the top though the bottom has some spine. Numerous tears up to 1.5 inches are also present. Green cloth boards underneath or clean though there are a few bumps along the edges and corners and there is a small tear in the cloth at the top with the spine. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No hinge issues, no bookmarks, no library markings. The second end page does have a gift inscription dated 1931. Pages are toned due to age and there is some scattered foxing and spotting present.

New York: Viking Press, 1949. Hardcover. VG-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Hardcover, no dust jacket. Orange cloth boards with pictorial end pages. There are no signatures or bookplates in the only evidence of handwriting found in the book is on the front end page we can see a price was written in the corner. The rear board has a small dot in the lower right corner, signifying this is likely a Book of the Month Club (BOMC) edition, which is also evident as the bottom of the copyright page states it was printed by the Kingsport Press. The first edition of this title should state the printer was American Book-Stratford Press.

Leipzig, Germany: C. F. Peters, 1890. Hardcover. Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Augustus Kollner. See photos for condition details. Tall hardcover, red cloth boards ornately decorated on front and gilt text on spine. Exterior shows soiling and scuffing along with edge and corner wear/bumps. Spine is also mildly faded. Decorative end pages and front and rear are free of any handwriting or bookplates. The title page does have to stampings on it - one reads "Fred Allen" in the lower one reads "Aantiquarisch". The hinge at the front board is cracked and shows an old repair in the rear hinge is just starting to open at the top and bottom edges. Binding of the text pages is good and pages are secure. The title page states first printing of July, 1929.

Exterior shows some spotting and scuffing along with light edge and corner bumps. The reason for the lower condition grade is because the front and rear covers show a couple small stains marks. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, nothing torn or loose. The only handwriting found in the book is in the extreme upper left corner of the front end page where there is a very small "s" written. No other handwriting found.

New York: G. W. Dillingham Company, 1900. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos or condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards decorated in gilt on front and spine. Exterior shows edge and corner bumps and wear, spine is quite signed and rear board has numerous scratches. Internal binding is good, hinges are intact at front and rear boards. Pages are toned due to age and some minor foxing is present. There's a hint of webbing showing at page 146. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings present.

Hardcover, maroon cloth boards show toning spots along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The rear board has a uneven spot at the bottom edge and there is a series indentations about 2 inches of the bottom in the center. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting. The end pages and pastedowns are darkened due to foxing and there are a few scattered smudge marks present, with the worst being opposite the title page and can be seen in one of the photos.

Hardcover with dust jacket, signed and dated by the author on the front end page. DJ is in very poor condition and is in several pieces. There is also several large chips with the bottom half of the spine missing. Jacket was placed in a protective mylar sleeve to prevent further damage. Black clapboards underneath are in very good condition except for a small fade spot at the bottom of the spine area. Corners also show bumping. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No other handwriting other than the author's signature, no bookplates, no library markings etc. The text pages are overall clean except for some minor spotting and foxing, although the end pages and pastedowns are quite darkened and spotted due to reacting with the dust jacket paper over the decades.

The book includes a two page typed letter (unsigned) from the actor and director Jasper Deeter to the editor of the Philadelphia Public Ledger, regarding this book. Dust jacket quite tattered with scuffing, soiling, chips and tears present. The underside of the jacket shows staining. Black cloth boards underneath shows some spotting and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. Internal binding has some issues: the front and page shows a faint indentation of a signature (it is unknown if this is Jasper Deeter's or not) and the rear hinge shows some cracking.
