New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1924. Photoplay Edition . Hardcover. VG+. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards with black text on front and spine. Exterior shows only minor handling wear along with edge and corner bumps. The interior pages are toned due to age but are clean, no signatures or bookplates, no handwriting, no library markings etc. Hinges are good at boards and the reason this only grades as VG+ instead of fine condition is because there is a tear at the bottom edge of page 223 that measures about 1.5 inches. This tear was raped paired with tape which has darkened over the decades.

Hardcover, lime green cloth boards with black text on front and spine. Exterior shows some spotting soiling and spine is lightly sunned. Corners are sharp with only minimal wear. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks. The only evidence of handwriting is in the upper outside corner of the front end page where you could just make out where a price was once penciled and then later erased. Pages are toned due to age and there is some scattered foxing and spotting present. Copyright page states seventeenth printing, March 1929. This condition is a strong VG, borderline VG+.

Exterior shows light spotting and soiling, spine is mildly toned. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age but are clean, front and rear end pages are quite darkened because of foxing, text pages are not affected by this.

DJ is worn and tattered with numerous chips and tears, the largest being at the spine corners that measure over an inch. Red cloth boards underneath show only minor edge wear and soiling, the worst being a dark spot just above the letter I in the title the internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and there are some smudge marks and scattered foxing present. Title page states "Illustrated with scenes from the Photoplay, a First National picture featuring Dorothy Mackaill".

The front end page has a dark spot in the upper right section which appears to be from where and all price was once penciled and then later erased, which smeared the paper. Hardcover, red cloth boards show spotting and spine shows a bit of fading along with a vertical crease. Edges and corners also show bumps/wear. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. Pages are toned due to age and there is spotting and foxing present, particularly around the illustrations and frontispiece. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. The title page states first printing of July, 1929.

Hardcover, red cloth boards still have strong color but there is spotting, both light and dark. Edges and corners show some light bumps/wear, the rear board has a spot near the lower left edge where there is a small chip in the cloth along the bottom edge. The interior binding is good, no hinge issues and text pages are tight. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings. The front end page shows remnants of a price once penciled in the corner, which is the only handwriting found in the book. The only other issues with the interior is foxing is present, mainly around the illustrations and also pages 97-119 that has crimps near the upper outside corner where there is bumps/crimps along the top edge which goes in no more than 1/4 of an inch. Hardcover, brown cloth boards shows some spotting along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The internal binding is good except for some pulling in spots and also the front hinge, which has a thin cracks starting on the upper half. The opposite end page contains a 1928 gift inscription as well as remnants of a price that was once penciled in the corner. Paper is toned due to age and there is spotting and foxing present on numerous pages, as well as the exterior page edges.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1936. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG-/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Hardcover with first eight dust jacket. Bottom front of DJ states the two actors names instead of later editions which state Pulitzer prize. DJ price clipped on front flap and exterior well worn and soiled. Book itself has some edge and corner bumps, pages toned, previous owner's name on front end page. Scribner first edition as indicated with " A" appearing on copyright page. See photos.

The exterior shows spotting and soiling with the worst being the rear board, spine is faded. Edges and corners also show bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. The front end page contains a 1918 Christmas gift inscription, no other handwriting found, no bookplates, no library markings etc. There is some light scattered spotting and foxing with the worst being the end pages. Title page states:" Illustrated with scenes from the play" and"Founded on Earl Derr Biggers' Played of the Same Name".

DJ shows scuffing along with some bumps, chips, small tears that are mainly along the top edge. There is also a small dent in the dust jacket near the spine and to the left of Ginger Rogers head. Red cloth boards underneath or clean with the only issue being some edge and corner wear. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight, the pages are darkened due to the poor quality of paper used because of the wartime regulation compliance. There are no bookplates, no library markings, no signatures. The only evidence of handwriting found is in the upper corner of the front end page where there is remnants of a price that was once penciled and then later erased.

DJ shows toning and scuffing along with edge bumps/wear/small tears. Gray cloth boards underneath show only minor toning spots, though there are dark areas in the gutters. Corners are sharp. The book would normally grade as VG+ to near fine but both the front and rear hinges have partial cracks. This is just from lifting and can be repaired, if desired. Pages are toned due to age and there is some foxing present, though this is limited to the pages around the frontispiece along with the end pages and pastedowns. Illustrated with scenes from the play produced by Brock Pemberton. Scarce to find with jacket.

Hardcover, red cloth boards show toning and spotting along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The rear board has a couple light spots near the outside edge. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, nothing torn or loose. Pages show scattered foxing and a few smudge marks, particularly on the title page and pages around the frontispiece. Stated first edition on the copyright page.

The only evidence of handwriting is on the front end page where something was once penciled along the top edge, presumably from an old bookstore, and then later erased. Pages are toned due to age and there is some spotting and foxing present, though this is mainly limited to the end pages and pastedowns.

DJ is in poor shape and in several pieces, there is also a large section of the spine missing. The jacket has been placed in a protective mylar sleeve to minimize any future damage. Light blue cloth boards underneath show some spotting and a bit of spine fade but have otherwise been always protected by the dust jacket. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. The are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, nothing torn or loose. Paper is toned due to age but pages are otherwise clean with the exception of scattered foxing which is mainly around the illustration pages. This is due to the two different types of paper reacting over the many decades.

DJ is toned and spotting is present, edges and corners show chips and small tears. There is a large interior in the lower right corner on the rear of the jacket, which measures about 1.5 inches. Blue cloth boards underneath are clean but there are some fade spots on the spine and the small scratch in the lower left of the front board. Edges and corners also show bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. End pages and pastedowns show foxing spots due to reacting with the dust jacket paper. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, no remainder marks. Illustrated with scenes from the Photoplay, a Rex Ingram-Metro production with Alice Terry, Ramon Navarro and Lewis Stone. The copyright page states 14th impression, March, 1923.

Philadelphia, PA: The John C. Winston Company, 1932. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. The original price of $1.00 is still present on the front flap. DJ is toned and tattered, with numerous chips and tears. Spine shows fading. Tan cloth boards underneath are clean and the illustration on the front board is bright. There was only a few minor fade spots, mainly along the bottom front and spine. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and there is some minor light foxing scattered about, particularly around the pages showing photos from the movie. The dust jacket has a low condition grade, just below the good region, but the book itself nearly grades as fine. The only reason it was lowered to NF was because of the minor spotting in the lower section of the front board and spine.

New York: Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1902. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Purple cloth boards show fading along edges and spine is sunned to the point where nearly all the color is gone. Spotting and scuffing is also present, with the worst being the rear board. Edges and corners show light bumping/wear. The internal binding is good, no serious hinge issues except for some light pulling. Previous owners info is penned on the front end page and the opposite pastedown has roughness to the paper where it is likely a bookplate was removed. No other handwriting found in the book, no library markings, no torn pages. Both end pages and pastedowns show toning and some light spotting/foxing.

Hardcover, blue cloth boards shows scuffing and spotting along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings, no handwriting found. The front end page has three sets of pinholes near the upper left corner the page is slightly darkened there. The sets of holes seem to match up to what the staple would be so presumably a receipt of some kind was stapled there and then carefully removed. Pages are toned due to age and there is some scattered foxing and spotting present. The rear end page has a small tear with the bottom of the page folded. This was straightened out after the picture was taken.
