Exterior shows minor edge and corner bumps/wear, board shows some soiling with some light spots to the front, spine is mildly faded. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. Pages are toned due to age and some minor spotting and foxing is present. Front end page contains two stamps showing the name Lewes D. Orton. No other handwriting or markings found.

New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1952. Hardcover. VG+/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Price is clipped on the front flap. DJ is soiled on all sides along with edge and corner bumps/small tears. Pale red cloth boards underneath are still clean and bright with sharp corners. Inscribed in French and signed by Madame Yagodkin on the front end page. Interior binding is good, no hinge issues, text pages are tight. No other handwriting other than the gift inscription. No remainder marks, no library markings, no underlining, nothing torn or loose.

New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1971. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Richard Shannon. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, dark gray-black cloth boards with gilt on spine. Exterior cloth is heavily spotted and faded, spine is faded as well. Edges and corners show bumps/wear and spine text is worn as well. Internal binding is in much better condition as pages are tight and overall clean, with only a few areas of spotting. There is a generic bookplate on the front pastedown and one of the pages about one fourth the way in had a corner fold. The corner has been straightened out but the creases still present. Book is unpaginated but this page is just past "The Five Days" illustration. No other markings found in the book, no handwriting, no remainder marks. The copyright page states first edition.

Hardcover, blue cloth boards show darkening along edges along with some light spotting and soiling. Spine is darkened and the upper right corner of the front board as a crease running diagonal. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, no underlining etc. the front end page has two dots near the bottom center, it is uncertain if they were, pen or just from when the book was printed. Page 19 had corner fold which has been straightened out. Very light scattered foxing is noted though the worst is on the end pages and pastedowns.

London: William Rider and Son, Limited, 1911. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, denim blue boards with gilt on front and spine. Interior shows only minor handling wear and toning, rear board has a few scuffs in spots, corners lightly bumped. Internal binding is good though the hinge at rear board is just starting to pull in spots. Text pages are toned due to age but secure, end pages have darkened due to reacting with the binders glue at the pastedowns. No signatures or personal bookplates, no handwriting, no library markings. Front pastedown contains the original bookstore label showing the book was first at the Oriental Esoteric Library out of Washington DC. An attractive copy strong VG, borderline VG+.

Exterior shows minor smudge marks and soiling, including on the spine. Small bumps noted on board edges, mainly on rear board. Interior binding is good, no hinge issues. The pages are toned due to age and some minor scattered foxing is present. No signatures or bookplates, no handwriting or library markings, binding is tight with no hinge cracks. Title page states second edition - revised and profusely illustrated. Uncommon to find one in this shape. Non U.S. sales may require additional postage, depending on location.

The original price of $4.50 is still present on the front flap. DJ shows scuffing and soiling along with edge and corner wear/bumps/chips/small tears. Black cloth boards underneath are clean with only minor edge bumps. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight, almost like book was never read. There is a little bit of white showing at the front board hinge but this is just because the way the paper was mounted. The rear hinge as a couple small cracks starting because the binding is so tight back there. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks. The only handwriting found in the book is a small "ooo" written in red pen along the top edge of the front end page. No other handwriting noted. Copyright page states first edition.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1944. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket that still has the original price of $3.00 on the front flap. DJ is in rough shape with a lot of spotting and soiling, particularly on the back. There are also numerous edge chips and wear, along with tearing. The largest tear on the jacket is at the bottom of the spine where there is a tear measuring just over one inch. Green cloth boards underneath or clean with the only issue being edge and corner bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. There is a bookplate on the front pastedown (Harvin E McFadden) but this is the only personal markings in the book. There is no handwriting or signatures, no library markings, nothing torn or loose. The text pages are toned due to age and there is some scattered foxing and spotting present. Stated first edition on the copyright page.

DJ shows some minor spotting and soiling along with a couple edge and corner bumps/small tears. The price is clipped on the front flap. Yellow cloth boards underneath her clean with only minor corner bumps. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks. The only evidence of handwriting found in the book is at the top of the front end page we can just barely see where something was written in pencil, possibly a signature or price, and then later erased. No other handwriting found in the book. The book itself would normally grade is fine, but the exterior page edges show a couple scuff lines and foxing spots.

Exterior shows chipping and small tears as well as light toning, spine is not wrinkled or cracked. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. Paper is toned due to age but pages are clean, front end page has a circular stamp in the corner from India and title page has price stamped in lower right corner. Copyright page states seventh edition, 10,000 copies.

DJ is in rough shape with numerous chips and tears along the edges, there is a large tear starting at the upper left corner area of the front board which runs down the edge over 6.5 inches. You can see by the photos this was at one time repaired underneath with masking tape which darkened the jacket on both sides, this tape was later replaced with clear scotch tape. Blue cloth boards underneath show some scuffing and spotting along with edge and corner bumps. The worst being at the top right of the rear board and a smaller tear near the top left of the front board. The internal binding is in much better condition, mostly pages are tight though there is a little bit of pulling at the half title page. The only evidence of handwriting found is on the front end page where you can see where an old bookstore price was penciled in the corner and then later erased. This is the first US edition after originally being published in London in 1951.

Hardcover, brown pattern cloth boards with gilt to spine boards show edge bumping and exterior is mildly soiled. Yellow end pages and front and rear. Front pastedown and end page has previous owners listed pages are lightly toned due to age but moderate to heavy foxing is noted, with the worst being near the end pages. Exterior is quite soiled on all sides and spine. The internal binding of the text portion of the book is fairly good (webbing is starting to show at page 112 where there is also a small rust mark) and the hinge at the rear board shows pulling, front hinge not affected. Pages are very toned due to age and there is spotting and smudge marks present, though the worst seems to be the end pages. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Good reading copy.
