A very valuable bibliography based on the holdings of the Irish National Library, including many rare pamphlets, journals and papers of the period. An 18 page introduction provides an explanatory guide to the literature and is followed by a detailed 12 page chronology. The bibliography is arranged in five chapters - 1: General and Introductory; 2 : From the Home Rule Bill (1912) to 1916; 3 : the Insurrection of 1916; 4 : from 1916 to the General Election (1919); 5 : Dail Eireann (1919 -1921). Entries in the bibliography are annotated to indicate the point of view and authority of the writer, and, in the case of periodical publications, the circumstances under which they were produced and circulated. Catalogue of a splendid collection of manuscripts, books, ephemera and objets d'art relating to Mary, Queen of Scots which was built up by Mrs George T. Bliss and donated to the Bibliotheque Nationale by her daughter. Originally issued with a portfolio of loose plates (not present here) illustrating some of the greatest rarities described in the main volume. With an index of names and an index of titles. From the introduction: " "One result of the intense religious and political struggles produced by the four-and-a-half year civil war of the Fronde (January 1649-October 1652) was the appearance of large numbers of pamphlets. It is impossible to know exactly how many appeared; estimates range from 5,000 to 11,000. In all likelihood, only about a quarter of all pamphlets written were published; the rest remained in manuscript, but, nevertheless, had a wide circulation.
