Description:
London: Penguin, 2000. Revised. Paperback. Near Fine. Hailed as possibly the finest biography of Austen ever written when first published in 1997, this is, nevertheless, a revised and updated edition. One reviewer said of the original work, "As near perfect a Life of Jane Austen as we are ever likely to get: intelligent, feeling, suggestive. Tomalin presents Austen as remarkably clever; sensitive, but unsentimental; tough, yet observant; guarded; and a woman with the devil of a genius in her." Contains 362 pages, 20 x 13cm, with 16 pages of b&w illustrations, plus two appendices; extensive notes; a short bibliography; concise family tree; and index. Illustrated card covers showing very light creasing to spine, otherwise in very good condition. Internally, shows light pencil underlinings and notes within first couple of chapters, otherwise Near Fine: clean and bright in excellent bindings. Apart from noted faults, looks, feels and smells like new.

Description:
London: Warne, 1985. Revised. Hardcover. Good/good. London: Warne, 1985. Revised. Hardcover. Good/good. Hardback. Revised Edition. Good/Good. When Beatrix Potter died in 1943 no one, not even her husband, knew the full story of her life. Despite her fame, she preffered anonymity, hiding her creative genius beneath the persona of a formidable Lakeland farmer. Lane's now famous biography was first published in 1946 and revealed much of Potter's life for the first time - her lonely Victorian childhood; her struggles for independence; her unhappy love affair and happy marriage; and the accidental influences that shaped her artistry. Much more has come to light since this biography was first written which adds valuable new material to a full and definitive work. This 1985 edition has an updated introduction and contains many previously unpublished photographs. Contains 174 pages, 21.5 x 13cm, with 8 pages of b&w plates and 8 facsimile pages of writings and drawings by Potter. Ex-library, front… Read More

Description:
London: Constable, 1997. Hardcover. Good/Very Good. Used. Good/Very Good Jacket. Biographical work on Bram Stoker and his masterpiece, 'Dracula'. In a brilliant and painstaking piece of literary research, the authors reveal for the first time many of the real people and places Stoker drew upon in writing 'Dracula'. In particular they argue that his first thirty-one years in Ireland have been grossly disregarded or wildly misrepresented. Bringing Stoker back from the realms of misinformation and speculative fantasy, this book is full of new knowledge essential to the understanding of Stoker's classic novel. Contains 199 pages, 24 x 15.5cm, with 12 pages of black & white illustrations. Ex-library, front endpaper neatly removed, some library markings. Black cloth boards in very good pictorial dust jacket. Internally, good: generally clean and unmarked in excellent bindings.
