Full limp vellum. Owner's inscription to title page. Lacking ties, otherwise an exceptional crisp copy from the library of a prominent Ohio Rabbi. First published in Portuguese in a Lisbon imprint of 1626, this is the first Spanish language edition. A vitriolic attack on Iberian Jews who had converted to Christianity that they might remain in their homes following Ferdinand & Isabella's Alhambra Decree. Matos questions their faithfulness (amongst other accusations) & calls for their immediate expulsion. The book has the usual royal authorizations & licenses. In this edition the author's original prologue is preceded by one of the translator ("Prólogo del auctor, al lector")

Rebound in dark blue faux leather boards with gilt particulars to front board. Portuguese throughout. Comes with hand written letter on Forca Aerea Brasileira letterhead with the name Arnaldo Mendes. Previous owner's name and inscription to tile page of each volume, otherwise no other names. Slight toning to pages, and an outline of a hand drawn in pencil to last page of volume 1. Fading to volume 2 front board (see image). Slight foxing to back boards of both volumes (see image). 6 3/4 x 10 inches each.
