Autograph, framed with portrait of the author.; c. 7.5x7.2 framed to 13x21 in; This receipt may have "...had something to do with the State of Maryland's agreement to indemnify the individuals who had lost property as a result of the Baltimore riots in August 1835. Morris was a trustee of the failed Bank of Maryland.... Morris also evidently had copies of the prints headed for the state's library in Annapolis, which were also damaged or destroyed (see Maryland State Library Commission, Seventh Annual Report to His Excellency The Governor of Maryland for the Year 1909, p. 48). Audubon presumably had submitted an indemnity petition to the State of Maryland seeking reimbursement, or Morris had filed one on his behalf.
