Description:
This small dictionary covers terms, people and gods from more than just the Greek and Roman mythology, with Egyptian, Scandinavian and "Hindoo" mythology as well. (The Greek and Roman mythological figures seem to have more complete descritions than the rest.) The fabric front cover is embossed with decoration in black and gilt. More black print on the spine. There is wear at all four corners and at the head and tail of the spine. The stitched binding seems tight and the pages are clean and unmarked, with a very tiny amount of edge damage on pages 57-60. Decorative endpapers with the owner's name on the front endpaper. There are many reprints, facsimilies and PODs out there of this book, but this is the real deal, well over 100 years old. It is also exceedingly rare.

Description:
Cover is not badly worn for a book over 120 years old, showing mild wear along the edges and at the corners, and a bit of a dark stain to the lower front. Pages are tight and intact with just a few small margin notes. Owner's name and some notes on the front endpaper. A small stain (1 cm dia.), possibly coffee or tea, on the lower page edges, from the half-title page to about page 7 of the poem (see photo #3). The stain does not reach any print. This is Alexander Pope's peotic translationof four books of Homer's Iliad. This edition is from Macmillan's Pocket English Classics series and was originally published in 1899. This is from the third printing, May, 1900. The introduction materials cover 55 pages before the poems begin. This is a very rare book, one which I have been unable to find another like it in any of my online sources. The closest thing I found had no picture and was asking twice my price. With so many reprints, facsimiles and PODs out there, this is an original.

Description:
No dust jacket. Blue cloth covered boards with edgewear top and bottom. Gilt print on spine. Decorative endpapers. Seventeen illustrations. In researching this book, I find that it has been reprinted in recent years, yet remains rare. I have found none other than this one actually published in the 19th century. Included inside the front cover is a clipping from the Oregonian, copyrighted 1900 (photo #3).
Now, for the bad stuff. First, this book seems to have suffered a major coffee spill (or some other beverage), as can be seen in photos #6 and 7. This stain begins at the frontispiece and continues in diminishing area until about page 29. Elsewhere, the stitching is loosening in places with a few broken stitches, making some packets a bit loose, but not yet disconnected (photo #5). There is also a split just behind the front endpaper, as seen in photo #4.
So what we have here is a very rare volume, with cosmetic and structural issues, offered at a price less than most of those 21st century… Read More

Description:
About as good a condition as you could expect in a paperback over 50 years old. Small chips at the corners and edges, with a minor rub or two on the covers. Spine is square and creaseless. When you set it on a flat surface, the lower right corner lifts about 3 cm, indicating a slight warp. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked, with yellow dyed edges all around. This book is rather rare. A nice addition to your Asimov collection.
