Blue cloth cover is coming loose from the binding, front and back, but not completely detached. Peeling off the lower corner of the spine as well, as shown in photo #1. Pages are clean and tight, with no sign of notes or underlining. Owner's name on each of the first four pages. That owner was Gertrude Pritchard, apparently a schoolteacher in England early in the twentieth century. I acquired a number of her books from an estate sale in Seattle recently, and have gathered them in a catalogue entitled "Pritchard Library".

Dust jacket has small spots of wear at some corners and edges, the book has less. Blue fabric covered boards with black print. A collection of humorous, perhaps satiric, essays on English history, with illustrations. Pages are clean, tight and bright, with no significant yellowing inside and some brown spotting on the top edges. This is possibly a first edition, as the year is given on the title page, but nothing specific is mentioned on the copyright page regarding editions or printings.

Minor wear. Owner's name on front cover. Many photographs in black and white and a few in color.

Photo #3 is of King Charles's Tower. (Doesn't say which one.) This is a travel guide that would have been sold to tourists to the area. No date within, but I suspect it to be from the late 1950s. (Some of the automobiles in the photographs look more like 1930s and 1940s.) Little wear.

Cover is printed paper-covered boards; the dust jacket shows wear at all the usual places, plus a 5.5 cm tear down the middle of the front, right through the words "English" and "Cities". An issue of a substantial series entitled "Britain in Pictures". Contains 39 illustrations, 8 of which are in color. Photo #7 shows a weakness in the spine where the glue has failed, but the stitching holds.

A highly valued book with very little wear, to book or dust jacket. Pages are clean, tight and bright. Thick paper and a silk ribbon bookmark built in. Looks almost like new. The book is presented in the form of a journal or diary of the author's trip through England.

The original owner's name is inside the front cover. That owner, Gertrude Pritchard, appears to have been a schoolteacher in England in the early 20th century. No dust jacket. Fabric over the spine has taken its leave at some point in the past 160+ years. The remaining cover is quite worn, of an indeterminate color due to many stains. A small group of pages, including the cover page and frontispiece, has come loose. The remaining pages are tight and intact, with a lot of spotting and many very dark, yet still readable pages. This book is four volumes in one, covering many hundreds of years of English history. An understandably rare book after all these years. This book will ship at about three pounds. Excess shipping costs are included in the list price.

A pocket-sized book, part of a larger series by Collins' Clear-Type Press (Collins' Illustrated Pocket Classics). This is volume II of the biography, sorry I don't have volume I. Illustrated. Cover of oxblood leather with gilt on the spine. Spine has damage at the top edge and somewhat less at the lower edge. The leather is also well worn at the corners. The pages are clean, tight and unmarked. The bookseller's sticker on the rear endpaper tells us it was originally sold at the Skylark Bookstore in Washington, D. C. No date is given within the book, but my research indicated that this book was published in the 1920s.

Little wear. Articles written by various authors. Many photographs showing Kent in the 1950s and 60s. Forward written by the Right Honourable Lord Cornwallis.

No dust jacket. Maroon fabric covered boards, showing wear at the corners (boards peeking out) and at the top and bottom of the spine. The pages are generally clean and tight, with just a little bit of penciled marginalia ending after a handful of pages. Quite a bit of writing on the front endpaper, including the owner's name, with a date two years before the publication date on the title page (proving time travel IS possible, I guess). The rear endpaper has a split showing the binding fabric, which is still holding tight. The rear endpaper also has an envelope glued thereon, containing some notes taken by the original owner. A rare book.

George Cavendish was in Cardinal Wolsey's employ from 1526 until the Cardinal's death in 1530. Cavendish then retired to write this biography, completed about 1557, but not published until 1641, credited at that time to George's brother William. This 1852 edition corrects that and other errors from earlier publications.This volume has been expertly rebound in leather. New material was added over the spine (photo #8) and at the corners (photo #9). The remaining portion of the original spine was glued onto the new material and the original cover panels were retained, thus saving the marbled endpapers (photo #4), which matched the marbled decoration on the page edges all around (photo #3). Red fabric tape was added to the endpapers, stabilizing the new binding. The pages are clean, tight and unmarked, and appear to retain their original stitching. This rebinding was not done recently although I have no basis to guess just how long ago the job was undertaken. This was a very good job of preservation.
