We have here a 12-volume set of the complete works of Henrik Ibsen, translated into English, published in 1908. All show very little wear other than being quite sun-faded over the spines. The leather covers are still smooth and intact, with a lovely oxblood shade and a bright gilt shield with the title information. The spines feel more like suede but the gilt print is still clear. The pages are clean, tight and intact, with no significant age-related yellowing. The bindings are stitched with the covered glued on. There is some splitting of the glue near the front of eight of the twelve books, as often happens with these turn of the century bindings, but nothing is coming loose (see photo #10). Although it says in the title that the series is twelve volumes, there is also an index, giving a total of thirteen volumes. The covers are deep red fabric covered boards with leather over the spine. The wear is almost all in that leather area where there has been damage at the top, and/or bottom of some of the spines (some can be seen in the photos). Otherwise, there is little damage. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked, with no yellowing. The top edges of the pages are gilted as are the print and decorations on the spines. Each book has a color frontspiece and other scattered illustrations as well. The original owner inserted various clippings and pictures into the books, which I have chosen to leave for their historical value. A few of them are shown in the final four photos. The covers are paper and leather with lots of wear. Leather over spine shows some wear but remains intact, while the leather over the corners is worn through in three of four. Decorative endpapers. Page ends are decorated but darkened to be almost indistinguishable. Many illustrations in the form of etchings of actors in their Shakespearian roles. Pages are heavily spotted, are unmarked and seem to be tight and intact. This is the first of three volumes in a set and covers Shakespeare's comedies. Also contains a brief biography of the playwright, written by Charles Knight. THis sturdy book will ship at over four pounds. Excess shipping costs are included in the list price.

Green cloth cover, no dust jacket. Pages clean, tight and unmarked. Contains introduction, the play, notes and five appendices. Recently, an estate sale yielded a number of books originally owned by a woman in England during the first two decades of the 20th century. All are marked with the name of Gertrude (or G.) Pritchard. I have included all of these books in the Pritchard Library catalogue. I will be adding more to this catalogue entry as I find them. For 113 years old, this book is in great condition.

Book shows little wear. Dust jacket has edge and corner wear, an accumulation of spots, and three tears, two of which are under 5 mm while the third, located at the top of the rear flap fold is about 2.5 cm. This book was released after the first performances of the play at the Morosco Theatre in 1966 and includes a list of the cast and three photos from the production. A scarce book.

Cover has some creases, spine has one, too. 443 pages are clean, tight and mostly unmarked. Some marks on the table of contents and some notes inside the rear cover. Multivolume (5) set. In German, published in Berlin in 1908. A translation: The Complete Works of Henrik Ibsen, total output in five volumes. It also notes: einzige autorisierte deutsche ausgabe, in other words, Only Authorized German Edition. Minor shelf wear, still in excellent shape after 113 years. The first volume begins with a two page forward and a 183 page introduction, which probably would be interesting if only I read German. This is a collector's item and must be rather rare, as I was unable to find anything exactly like this offered for sale at any of my website sources. Printed in Germany in 1908, you have to imagine that two World Wars would have eliminated most of the copies that stayed over there.The five volume set weighs in excess of seven pounds; the list price includes excess shipping costs.

Thin trade paperback. Little wear. 153 pages, with the preface running from page 9 to page 49 before the play actually begins.

Cover shows a lot of wear, including bent corners, three spine creases, and rubs and chips at the edges. Pages are clean and tight, with no margin notes and very little underlining. The play is offered with side-by-side notes, a page of text on the left and a corresponding page of notes and definitions on the right. A number of pages have been dog-eared.

Stated first printing for this translation. This volume contains five of Chekhov's plays, including The Seagull, The Three Sisters, The Cherry Orchard, The Bear, and The Anniversary. A rare book.
