One of the most in depth works on the Congo-Zambesi basin. Tremendous travel and hunting diary. Gibbons started at Cairo and explored south along the Nile through Uganda, the Congo, Tanganyika, Zambesia (traveling completely west to the Atlantic Ocean) and back to and through the Okovango. Then south to the Cape. A major feat and an exceptionally rare work. Vg+ to very near fine in orig. cloth binding with large gilt/deco map of the route on the front covers. Very scarce, perhaps rare, especially when complete with both original pull out rear pocket maps. The maps are thick and the bindings are firm and tight, unusual for this set.

This is a superior copy and a great addition to any collection.

A VG+ copy in original cloth, with gilt titles on spine and front board and gilt snarling lion on front. Engraved bookplate of former owner inside front cover with a notation that this copy was "presented by the author." Almost invisible blindstamp of Munger Africana Library on title page.

Pictorial card covers. Front ill is map of the lengthy trip. The author and three companions went on an eight-week trip through the Belgian Congo, Uganda, Tanganyika and Kenya. The hunting started in Tanganyika and Kenya. They took elephant, buffalo (including one stopped at 12 feet!), rhino, lion and plenty of plains game. Hunting was mainly in Tanganyika and Kenya. The book is noted in the Czech bibliography but this is only the second copy we listed since starting business in 1971! Near fine but with former owner's name and address stamp on lower front cover. A classic elephant hunting book that is and has always been sought after. Blunt was an elephant control officer in Tanganyika and spent his lifetime hunting. Great reading. The book also has a chapter by Blunt on other noted elephant hunters. VG to vg+ copy in orig. patterned cloth with gilt elephant on cover. As usual spine lettering difficult to read. Scarce, becoming rare in true first edition. Also there is foxing on half title page and a few pages in rear had been folded 1/16th of an inch. Some rubbed spots on binding but they are hard to see. Book is much better than this sounds. Value priced.
