Their antagonist, a French colonel, is just as inspired but in a different way. The main protagonist is Yacef Saadi, one of the rebel leaders. It was he who conceived the idea of having young, European-looking women place bombs in public cafés. Eventually he was captured and condemned to death but later pardoned and freed after Algeria achieved its independence from France.
