The Red Army Faction was an urban terrorist group which operated in Germany in the 1970s, although after the arrest and death of its original members others took up the cause and it continued into the 1980s. This exceptionally interesting history was written by a man who was at the fringes of the group and knew many of the members. His collection of documents, photographs, recordings is apparently vast, so his "inside" story is detailed. Also, he wrote the screenplay for the remarkable movie Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex.

The author was born into the Communist elite of East Germany but rebelled to such an extent that he was imprisoned. Upon his release in 1988 he founded his country's first neo-Nazi party. For the next five years he led a violent assault on the system which included street fighting and even terrorist attacks. However he began to have doubts about his activities and beliefs, and by 1993 he was publicly renouncing his movement.

Just after the War the author, along with his friend W. H. Auden, was sent by the American Army to Germany to do an assessment of the devastating damage there. This is an account of that, but more so it is about what he observed. The author soon begins to empathize with many ordinary people who had retained their humanity despite everything that had happened to them.

This is a collection of documents and photographs from the Russian security archives detailing the last days of Adolf Hitler and Josef Goebbels. It includes the interrogations and statements of Field-Marshall Schörner and of Hitler's security chief Rattenhuber, among others. Also, there is the full text of Martin Bormann's diary. Altogether, most fascinating. It might be noted too that the book reveals that on the orders of the KGB Chairman Andropov in 1970 the remains of Hitler and his paladins were cremated and the ashes thrown into the River Ehle near the East German village of Biederitz.

This is a most interesting ephemeral piece, with such things as a list of name days, notable histolrical events, a table of postage reate and so on. It appears to have been given out by the Post Office to its customers.
