The St. Andrews Golf Club at Hastings-on-Hudson in New York, established in 1886, was the first permanent club; the first American book on golf was published in 1895. Gorham engaged the young William (Will) Bradley (1868-1962) as printer. The book is filled with delightful stories, a golf poem (The Links o' Innerleven) and a golf song. There is golf history and plugs for golf as a game that doesn't require athletic ability--"a good golfer depends more upon steadiness of nerve than upon muscular agility."
