Rand McNally & Company, Chicago, 1901. This is a really fantastic old atlas- a few years over 100 at this point. 19 3/4" X 15 1/4" in heavy canvas-like cloth. The covers are heavily soiled, fraying at the spine ends and corners. Both hinges cracking - not surprising given a book this massive and heavy. The first 2 pages (flyleaf and a page of advertising), and the rear free endpaper and last 2 leaves are also soiled. The map of Philadelphia, which covers 2 pages has come loose, but is present. I came across 3 maps that have tears in them: I'm rating this book at FAIR PLUS to GOOD MINUS condition, but the maps, with a few exceptions are in very nice condition and also unusually large in size. Both ends of backstrip shredding; both hinges feel weak, but they are still holding on; covers moderately soiled: GOOD MINUS condition. This old geography book is filled with nifty old engraved-type illustrations showing people and scenes from around the world as it existed over 100 years ago. In the back of the book is a section devoted to full-color maps - very nice! There is a 2 page "commercial" map of the world showing trade routes, etc. which is quite nifty. Since this is the NEW ENGLAND EDITION, that part of the country is dealt with in great detail, including maps showing all the counties. 184pp + 24pp section of colored maps + 31pp section on New England.. 1st Edition.
