An iconic album that transcended Beatlemania and pointed the way to their new direction Rubber Soul is the sixth studio album by The Beatles. It was recorded in just over four weeks to make the Christmas market, and was released on December 3, 1965. Unlike the five albums that preceded it, Rubber Soul was recorded during a continuous period, whereas the group had previously recorded albums during breaks in between tour dates or other projects. Notably The Beatles made all of their subsequent albums as they did this one. Rubber Soul is regarded by fans and critics alike as one of the greatest albums in popular music history. In 2012, Rubber Soul was ranked number five on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". In 2013, after the British Phonographic Industry changed their sales award rules, the album was declared as having gone platinum. "Norwegian Wood" is generally credited as sparking off a musical craze for the sound of the novel instrument in the mid-1960s—a trend which would later branch out into the raga rock and Indian rock genres. The song is now acknowledged as one of the cornerstones of what is now usually called "world music" and it was a major landmark in the trend towards incorporating non-Western musical influences into Western popular music. Harrison's interest was fueled by fellow Indian music fan David Crosby of the Byrds, whom Harrison met and befriended in August 1965. Harrison would eventually be transfixed by all things Indian, taking sitar lessons from renowned Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar. Roger Ebert's Book of Film: From Tolstoy to Tarantino, the Finest Writing From a Century of Film

By Roger Ebert

New York: W. W. Norton & Co., 1996. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/near fine. As New in all respects. First printing, full number line. A generation of movie-goers went to a film because Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel said that it was worth it. Hard to believe that its been more than five years since Roger has been gone, twenty for Gene and twenty two since this book's publication. "No, it's not a collection of the film critic's musings but a revival of a long dormant genre: the anthology of writing about film. Ebert arranges over 100 pieces many of them book excerpts into categories (Movie Stars, The Business, Early Days, Genres, etc.) and provides a brief introduction to each. The range is astonishing, from H.L. Mencken writing about Valentino to an excerpt from a web site devoted to Quentin Tarantino. Even novels that capture the moviegoing experience of the movie business have been excerpted. It's a first-rate collection that will stimulate interest in both the movies mentioned and the authors anthologized."--Thomas J. Wiener for the Library Journal. Freedom & Unity: The Vermont Movie

By Nora Jacobson

Vermont: Upper Valley Arts, 2014. DVD. New. New in shrink wrap."Several dozen Vermont Filmmakers have collaborated in their efforts to create a new and interesting portrayal of the state of Vermont from the 1600s to today." From the film's website. “Civility tends to rule the day [in Vermont], and it is this quality perhaps above all others that endears our small republic to me, precisely, above all others, a quality that could also greatly benefit our greatly vexed national dialogue, which usually seems no dialogue at all. I am no sociologist, but I suspect this habit of mind derives from the commonwealth’s earliest days, when neighbor treated neighbor with decency because he or she knew that one day that neighbor might be a crucial friend in need.” — Sydney Lea, Poet Laureate of Vermont Books and other items ship promptly with a tracking number and (generally over $15.00) jacket protectors if applicable.
