Horn. No place. No date (Circa 1930)., 1930 Autograph album in the original box. Album size about 6 by 5 inches. Bound in blue cloth with gilt decoration and lettering. Book belonged to La Verne Wedel of St. Louis, Missouri and most of the material in the book is dated 1931. First few pages have publisher color printed borders while the bulk of the pages were originally blank. Nearly all the pages have writing from classmates. Interesting album in that most of the pages at the front are dated 1931 (Grammar School graduation) while several at the rear are dated 1935 (High School graduation). Several letters and cards laid in loose in the box bottom. Book is of course, unique, and one of a kind. A reference book for Women's Studies showing a portion of the educational experience of the young girl of the 1920's to early 1930's. This is one volume in a collection of some 65 of these old Yearbooks ranging from the late 1800's to the 1930's mostly from the Midwest which will be in my…

Unknown, 1936 This is a combination graduation/autograph book from Jewell Patterson who attended the Tulsa Beauty School in Tulsa, Oklahoma around 1935-1936. String-tied oblong book about 6 by 4 1/2 inches with blue & gilt covers. She may have been from Choteau since several of the pages are from others who lived there. In the group of laid-in material there are a couple of Mae West jokes that are beyond risque for the day. Also many hand written verses of the type that were written in memory books. The young woman was pretty frisky. This is one volume in a collection of some 65 of these old Yearbooks ranging from the late 1800's to the 1940's mostly from the Midwest. Barse & Hopkins. NY., 1920 Book size about 6 by 9 1/2 inches. Bound in brown cloth with front cover embossing. This is the High School Yearbook for Miss Esther Shelton of Washington, Missouri. She was a member of the Class of 1923. This is one of those early Yearbooks where the publisher provided an outline of what to enter in the book and then the student filled-in the book in whatever manner they chose. This is a superior example of the type with student names, printed programs, writings from classmates (Some with drawings in color), packaging of products (A copyright 1916 chewing gum wrapper--an actual Chesterfield cigarette flattened--a hair net package--and several others), party invitations, fancy napkins, photographs, various programs related to school work, and much else. The book is so crammed with various material that the binding is severely strained in places. About 34 photos pasted in with written captions. I could say this is rare, but it is actually unique, one of a kind, as all…

Book is in outline form with a few pages printed by the publisher as a guideline to the student working in the book. Crammed with information about Iowa gathered by the student and carefully entered in the book. A superior example of educational material for the young girl in the 1920's. A unique book, one of a kind. A fine example for the Women's Studies section at a library. Normal wear to be expected from a book that was in constant use while being prepared. The Reilly & Lee Co. Chicago, 1927 This is a hand made high school year book assembled by Rubie Jones who attended Audubon High School in Audubon, Iowa. She graduated in 1929, one of about 40 in her class. Oblong book size about 11 by 7 1/2 inches with unnumbered pages. String-tie and post binding in blue cloth over boards. One of those early Yearbooks where the publisher provided an outline of what to enter in the book and then the student filled-in the book in whatever manner they chose. This is an above average example of the type with newspaper clippings; hand written information; invitations; school related publications; mementos; 14 photos; etc. Unusual in that the student removed pages and gave them to friends to type or write on. Thus many of the pages are loose in the book. Of particular interest is the photo of the Girls Football Team--Haven't run across one of those before. I could say this is rare, but it is actually unique, one of a kind, as are all these old hand-made yearbooks.…

The Reilly & Lee Co. Chicago, 1920 This is a hand made high school year book assembled by Helen G Bunnell who attended Solomon High School in Solomon, Kansas. She graduated in 1920. Book size about 6 by 9 inches. Bound in tan cloth over boards with front cover gilt lettering and image of a young woman--decorated spine. One of those early Yearbooks where the publisher provided an outline of what to enter in the book and then the student filled-in the book in whatever manner they chose. First page has a photo of the 17 member Senior Class followed by 16 photos two to a page--most with captions. Students apparently used printed calling cards in those days and one enterprising young man's card states that he does 'Monkey Kissing - Bear Hugging' with no helpers. Also pages hand written by classmates, friends and teachers. Several pieces of school related material laid-in or glued on. Interestingly, Miss Bunnell listed her classmates and noted what had happened to them since graduation. I…

Reilly and Britton. Chicago., 1923 This is a hand made high school year book assembled by Veda L Carnes who attended New Salem High School in New Salem, North Dakota. She graduated in 1923. Book size about 6 by 9 inches. Bound in tan cloth over boards with front cover gilt lettering and image of a young woman. One of those early Yearbooks where the publisher provided an outline of what to enter in the book and then the student filled-in the book in whatever manner they chose. This is an unusual example of the type in that the student filled-in the book during her high school graduation year and then continued on with additional entries into the 1940's. She apparently became a teacher and there are entries here from her pupils, one of which today would probably get the child thrown out of school for racism. Many hand written entries from classmates and relatives and even three pages of cartoons, two of U. S. Geological Survey crew members along with their names and addresses. The book is filled…
