Sauk City,: Arkham House,, 1962.. [First Edition].. H.P. Lovecraft's imagination activated visions in both his sub-conscious and unconscious mind, taking the form of dreams, which inspired some of his most colorful tales. These "dream"tales are reproduced in this volume, along with letters to his closest friends to whom herelated these dreams. Some fingerprints to cloth; slight age-toning to page edges, a V.g. +, to near fine copy in d.j.

Sauk City: Arkham House, 1948. [First edition]. A twice-signed, presentation copy, the year of the book's publication, inscribed, and corrected, with nine corrections in the author's hand. The inscription to his friend Don Carter, reads, "For Don, the night after moving into the new home, sans Katzenjammer, Dec. 4th, 1948. Madam Mad No Whiskey, Dog Gone Madam Mad. Dry Shift." By explanation, CAS had met and been romancing Carolyn Jones Dorman, and moved into her home in Pacific Grove, California. Carolyn had three children from a previous marriage. CAS enjoyed the pleasures of alcohol, sometimes overdoing it, but Carolyn here, was wasn't allowing it. There are nine-handwritten corrections to this copy, in addition to the author's full-signature on the half-title page. Signed copies of this title are scarce, but corrected copies are rare. Some dullness to the cloth, moderately soiled, d.j., with signs of aging, and some darkening to the spine-panel of d.j. Still a very good copy in very good d.j.

Sauk City,: Arkham House, 1950. [First Edition]. A collection of forty-seven macabre themed poems, originally published in various journals and magazines, including Weird Tales, Wings, The Arkham Sampler, and others. One of the included poems, 'The Ballad of the Jabberwock' won the Stephen Vincent Benet award in 1946. Werewolves, Dragons, Witches, Kelpies, Fauns, Centaurs, are only a smattering of the mythical and supernatural subjects explored. Readily approachable, the majority of poems are only a page in length. Drake was a popular Weird Tales poet with more appearances in WEIRD TALES than Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, or H.P. Lovecraft. With so few copies printed, [553 copies]the book is a legendary Arkham House rarity, with only half the edition run offered to the public. Sauk City: Arkham House, 1944. [First Edition]. Fourteen tales comprise this first collection of Whitehead tales published by Arkham House. A wartime publication of even less than usual from Arkham House, at [1559 copies] this is a fairly elusive title. The binding is a dark blue cloth which Arkham House used before they settled on the Holliston Black Novelex which showed fingerprints like crazy. A very good copy, with one corner just nubbed. D.j., is faded at spine as usual, a 1" closed tear at upper l.h., edge, a few snags, but a very presentable copy. A very good tight copy.

The first of the Arkham House volumes by/about HPL with "collections of lesser pieces," Fragments written by HPL, essays, revisions, a few very early tales; and personal anecdotes, poems and articles by contributors dealing with the author's writings and personality. Numerous good but small photos of HPL and pother Weird Tales writers, Robert E. Howard-looking older than his thirty years with his infamous mustache, Clark Ashton Smith, Henry S. Whitehead, Donald Wandrei, Frank Belknap Long, Henry Kuttner, E. Hoffman Price and too many others to note; in addition to the outstanding dust-jacket illustration by Virgil Finlay. [2035 copies printed]. Very, very light dusting to page top-edges, barely noticible moisture dulling to lower-edge of front panelsee scan few finger-prints to cloth; d.j. has some very light chips and a 1/4 closed split at spine, some toning to d.j., spine, all evidenced in scan. A very good copy in v.g., d.j. Nice spring in the hinge.

Sauk City: Arkham House, 1964. [First Edition]. Some of Smith's most beautiful writing is found within these fifty pages of worded jewelry. The virtuosity of his command of language is on full display". . . For traffic in the realms of mystery and wonder, in the marts of scarce-imaginable cities and metropoli a million leagues away, on the last horizon of romance, my dreams departed with its caravan of laden camels from The Caravan, in Poems and Prose. A very small print-run, even for Arkham House, only 1016 copies printed. A very-fine unread copy in fine d.j., with jthe merest trace of color at the folds, as is common with this cover paper.

Sauk City: Arkham House, 2003. First Edition. Two hundred-seven-six letters are referenced, from the year 1911, when CAS was eighteen, until just a few weeks before his death in 1961. Smith's letters are in no way as compelling, absorbing, or entertaining as Lovecraft's, as Smith, in addition to working hard manual labor, writing his fictions, painting, and translating, he didn't have the time on his hands that HPL did. An excellent frontispiece photo of CAS by the noted California photographer, Wynn Bullock, with a nice cover of a colorized, altered Walter J. Daugherty photo of Clark Ashton Smith Sculptures. As new copy in d.j.

Sauk City: Arkham House, 1971. [First edition]. Submitted to Arkham House in 1949, SELECTED POEMS was a career-spanning selection by Smith himself, with many early poems revised or rewritten, including his epic THE HASHISH-EATER which is here presented in its final version (personally, I prefer it's first version as presented in EBONY & CRYSTAL, in 1922). Smith considered SELECTED POEMS his greatest book because he first and foremost thought of himself as a poet. Unfortunately the delays in publication due to economic concerns of such a hefty volume of poetry, then additional frictions between Derleth and Carolyn Smiththe author's wife, Smith did not live to see its eventual appearance in print. Over 500 poems. This is an exceptional copy, very fine, unread with white paper and just a few tiny rubs to d.j. A lovely copy!

Sauk City: Arkham House, 1973. [First Edition}. Eighteen stories from the '60-s-70's, an accompanying volume to NINE HORRORS AND A DREAM, his first Arkham House book. This being one of the "Author's Edition," created by Brennan, signed, and limited to numbered 100 copies. Fine in d.j.

Twenty-two tales utilyzing elements of HPL's Cthulhu Mythos. An updating of the anthology first published in 1969, dropping four stories, the August Derleth introduction, the biographical notes on each author, at the end, and adding the following six tales: "The Terror from the Depths," by Fritz Leiber, "Rising With Surtsey," by Brian Lumley, "My Boat," by Joanna Russ, "Sticks," by Karl Edward Wagner, "The Freshman," by Philip José Farmer, "Discovery of the Ghooric Zone," by Richard Lupoff, and Stephen King's"Jerusalem's Lot." Introduction by James Turner, the uncredited editor. Inspired illustration by J.K. Potter. An as new, unread copy in d.j.
