A somewhat reduced issue of van der Hem's well-knonw and charming poster, urging the spectator to spend their money well by buying a book. Probably commanded by the "Stichting Collectieve Propaganda voor het boek".

Paris & Nancy,: Berger-Levrault,, 1909.. x, 322, [ii] pp.Large 8vo (18,5 x 27 cm.). Finely bound in plain brown grained morocco; gilt border on sides; spine with 5 gilt tooled raised bands, compartments with gilt decoration, top and bottom of spine with double gilt rulers, gilt lettered; marbled end-papers. With a portrait and several illustrations. Delmas, Président de l'Union syndical des Maitres Imprimeurs de France, did much to improve the entire French printing and typographical industry. A very fine copy especially bound for O. DE RYCKER, a master lithographer, who was one of the most famous producers and publishers of posters in Europe during 1895 and 1928. Their fine work led them into printing other high quality items such as stock certificates. They also printed many artist signed postcards in continous tone lithography and are noted for the cards and posters published or the Red Star Line, chiefly after the illustrations by Henri Cassiers.

Original overlapping printed wrappers (upper left corner of front side very slightly damaged), uncut. ¶ The wellknown reference work for the collector of 18th century graphic art. With a brief introduction about the various technics and brief biographies of the principal artist such as Dagoty, Le Blond, Reynolds, Ward, etc. Finely printed in a limited and numbered edition on heavy paper. This copy bears nr. 14.

With numerous illustrations in colour and black & white. ¶ A nicely illustrated history of the Blaeu family, the world famous Amsterdam cartographers, printers and publishers. Fine copy.

Finely bound by Paul Affolter in 3/4 straight grained brown morocco, spine with 5 raised bands, gilt lettered and numbered, uncut, top edges red (a few insignificant rubbings; spines slightly discoloured). With 117 woodcut plates and illustrations of which 49 printed on chinese paper and pasted down. The rare first edition, and one of the few large paper copies printed on vélin. First historical study on the subject and a major work of reference. Apart from some scattered foxing, a fine copy in a very solid and nice binding. Vicard VI col. 73-74.

Contemporary half green grained morocco; spine with 5 raised bands, gilt lettered, in compartments gilt decorated with floral motive; hand made marbled boards and marbled end-papers; top edges gilt; original printed wrapper bound in; preserved in a matching slipcase. With 103 fine plates in helio-engraving, depicting 153 miniatures. Title printed in red and black. ¶ A superb, and finely bound large paper copy, being one of the 25 copies printed on "papier à la cuve des Papeteries d'Arches". A very fine faultless 'de luxe' copy. Durrieu, “seigneur de l’histoire de l’art médiéval” was one of the greatest illuminated manuscripts specialist, who wrote many standard works in that field.

With a coloured frontispice and one coloured plate (in chromolithography), and 100 fine plates in helio-engraving. Title printed in red and black. ¶ Henry Martin's last work. A superb, and finely bound large paper copy, being one of the 25 copies printed on "papier d'Arches à la cuve". There are only a few copies with the second coloured plate. Including a bibliography of Henry Martin's publications. A very fine faultless 'de luxe' copy.

The Edition Belin, founded in 1777 specialized in academic publications, is today the oldest existing independent publishing firm in France. (Les Éditions Belin sont une maison d'édition française, fondée en 1777 et spécialisée dans les ouvrages universitaires, scolaires et parascolaires. À ce jour, elle est la plus ancienne maison d'édition française encore indépendante).

Bruxelles,: A. Lesigne,, 1915 (=1918).. viii, 491, [viii] pp. 8vo (15 x 22,5 cm.). Contemporary dark blue buckram, spione gilt lettered (the original printed wrappers bound in). Richly illustrated with over 250 gravures and examples in black and in colour. ¶ Last and most complete edition of the fine typographical manual, with numerous examples of Victorian and Art Nouveau typography. The Cambridge University Library posses a presentation copy from the author to E.Bartlett (dated 7 july 1924) in which the following note is tipped in: "L'impression de ce volume a ete achevee au debut de 1915 ... ne voulant pas faire censurer mon oeuvre par les bandits ... j'en ai retarde la publication jusqu'apres leur depart. Je prie en consequence le lecture de remplacer le millesime 1915 ... par celui 1918". --(Some scattered light soiling, especially in the outer margin, but a good copy).
