Coloured illustrated frontispiece -- illustrator not credited. Numerous black-and-white drawings and illustrations throughout the book (some part page some full-page) and again that illustrator/s not credited. 1/4 dark pink coloured backstrip. 3/4 colour illustrated covers with red titles. A small book put out for boys dealing with trains. It is a mixture of short stories (with lots of derring-do and hero boys) and facts about different styles of trains and signals etc. Bumping and rubbing to the backstrip edges and book corners. Shelf wear to the lower book edges and rubbing to the book panels. Browning and foxing to the text block edges and noticeable browning to the internal text. Gift inscription to the top edge of the free front end paper. There are two small tears to the lower edge of the title page and a few pages throughout the text. Handling marks in staining is also present to the internal text. No publication data is readily available but given the illustrations of the trains and people probably 1950s. Shelfwear to the book edges. The backstrip is rubbed. Dust marks to all paper edges. Photographic dustwrapper, which is protected, showing steam and diesel engines. Black, red and white coloured titles to the front panel and black-and-white coloured titles to the backstrip. The dustwrapper photograph in this reprint, is different to that of the first edition, and there is no photograph on the back panel. The back panel of the dustwrapper is a plain red. There is some chipping to the dustwrapper edges. On the back panel there is a small closed tear approximately 1" in length. Australia grew up with railways, as the country opened up so did the spread of railways. Patsy Adam-Smith tells the story of this growth.
