In original dustjacket illustrated by Nichols. The dustjacket is slightly rubbed across the bottom edge, and at the tips of the fold overs, but does have a tear of approximately 2 inches length from the top right-hand side of the spine travelling downwards and then to the left through the word hooded of the title on the spine. Academic prigs and provincial Whigs (to quote Mr Compton Mackenzie on a more momentous Scottish issue) have had their way with Johnson's Boswell so continuously at the time seemed to the author right to challenge their judgements. -- Front fold over blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
