In an epic 32 cantos the author has put down, in writing, his thoughts, feelings, philosophy, humour, hardships and life as a prisoner of war of the Japanese during World War II. the book is still shows no damage, being claimed and free of annotation, the dust jacket has a rubbing it to the top and bottom edges, and has abrasions on the left hand margin of the front panel. Illustrated frontispiece of author, and throughout the book semi-tone photographs, black and white line drawings, and five maps illustrated the book. Bottle green covers with black writing on spine. The corners are slightly cocked and there is shelf wear evident on bottom edge of the book. The head and the heel of the spine are bumped and there are dust marks to all paper edges. Within the book there are signs of handling and grubby marks. There is a gift inscription on the ffep. Illustrated dustwrapper with black and white writing on the front cover and spine. The dustwrapper is rubbed and faded and there is chipping along the top and bottom edge of the spine.
