Hunting Badger

By Hillerman, Tony (Peter Thorpe artist)

NO BOOK – two foil large, single sheets of lettering layouts and colors proposed by Thorpe for the dust jacket. Foil with blue lettering is in Near Fine condition with some light wrinkles and fold marks; the other with title in dark gold is Very Good with a number of folds and wrinkles. Included is a jacket proof with the final art. Proof is fine minus with some very light specking; back panel and flaps all blank. Proof shows that version with dark gold lettering was the one selected by management at Harper. The single sheet foils were done in NYC whenever Thorpe proposed a foil jacket, as per a number of the final books by Hillerman. There were only 3 to 6 foils produced for Harper management to evaluate (cost of each over $300.00 paid by Harper) and are thus seldom seen. Items are ephemera from Tony's estate that Anne Hillerman donated to the Jemez Springs (NM) Library.

Finding Moon (Dust Jacket Proof)

By Hillerman, Tony

NO BOOK, dust jacket proof only, Fine panels but vertical crease to booth blank flaps. There is a fold crease along spine at back pane. Very unusual and scarce proof (only a small number of these were printed) for the jacket that artist Peter Thorpe did for this non-Navajo mystery. This was the original jacket proposed for the book, and Tony commented to Peter that he liked it very much. However, management at Harper quickly rejected it, wanting a more traditional, Navajo-like drawing for front panel. Item is part of a package of ephemera from Tony's estate that Anne Hillerman donated to the Jemez Springs Library.
