Prof. Endre Von Ivánka (1902-1974) was a German-Hungarian theologian and philologist. He was Professor at the Institute of Greek Philology in Budapest and Professor of Byzantine philology and intellectual history at the University of Graz.

First edition of Guido Pressler's 1961 facsimile of Bernhard von Breydenbach's (1440–1497) famous 1486 account in German of his pilgrimage from Venice to the Holy Land and Egypt form April of 1483 to January 1484, appearing first as Peregrinatio in terram sanctam.
Von Breydenbach was accompanied by Dutch artist Erhard Reuwich, and Reuwich's woodcut fold-out maps (the first in the West and the first accurate topographical representation of Jerusalem), drawings and reproductions of Arabic letters represented a major development in the art of printing and in disseminating geographical information. James Riddick Partington (1886 – 1965) was a eminent British chemist and historian of chemistry who published extensively on the history and principles of chemistry. He was president of the British Society for the History of Science from 1949 to 1951, and winner of the Dexter Award and the George Sarton Medal.

Partington was a fellow and council member of the Chemical Society of London as well as the first president of the Society for History of Alchemy and Early Chemistry when it was founded in 1937. The society established the Partington Prize in his memory in 1975.

Very Good +; the volume, bound in imitation vellum with gold stamping, is in Near Fine condition with no marks or damage of any kind, but the decorated slipcase has a wrinkle at the bottom, although it is not torn or cut, and is solid. This is the first edition of George Braziller's elegant reproduction of Catherine's famous Hours, one of the true masterpieces of illumination to survive from the 15th century. The Hours were commissioned for the marriage of Catherine, Duchess of Guelders and Countess of Zutphen (1417-1479), upon the occasion of her marriage to Arnold, Duke of Guelders, on 26 January 1430. The original work was probably completed about 1440. Dr. John Plummer, Curator of Medieval Manuscripts at the Morgan Library, where the manuscript is housed, wrote the introduction and commentaries.

When on Christmas Day 1130 Roger de Hauteville (Roger II) was crowned the first King of Sicily, a period of peace, prosperity and artistic flourishing began which lasted until 1194.
Popular historian Viscount Norwich describes in this second volume of his readable and engaging history of the "Second Norman Conquest" the coming to power and the rule of Roger II in the tolerant and relatively harmonious Kingdom of Sicily.
Fending off rebellions, invasions and Pope Innocent II, who was concerned by the Normans' increasing power, Roger died in 1154. He was succeeded by his son William I (the "Bad" [who really wasn't]), who in turn was succeeded by his son William II, and the Kingdom of Sicily continued to flourish until around 1194, when William III was deposed and the Kingdom fell in 1194 to the House of Hohenstaufen.

Includes all eight of the chansons.The famous chanson de geste in 9000 lines, known in a version of a lost original composed about 1180 and attributed to Richard le Pèlerin, a pilgrim who was on the spot and began composition during the siege of Antioch, inspired by the events of 1097–99. The climax of the First Crusade, the conquest of Antioch and Jerusalem, laid the foundations of the Crusader states. The Chanson was elaborated and to a degree mythologized and became part of the Crusader cycle of romances popular in the 14th century.
