A long monograph by the prominent Lefkadian and historian of the island Konstantinos Machairas (1882-1967) professionally bound by the former owner, eminent medieval historian Prof. K. M. Setton of the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study, whose bookplate it bears and whose initials appear on the heel of the spine. Two or three small spots (shown), small scuff mark on spine (shown), small remnant of label on monograph cover (shown).A hard-to-find first edition of Machairas's detailed history of the island, starting with the conquest of Lefkas by Venetians under Morosini at the start of the Sixth Ottoman-Venetian War in 1684. In 1715, in the Seventh Ottoman-Venetian War, Venice reclaimed the Morea and Lefkada remained under Venetian rule until 1797, when Napoleon ended 1,100 years of the Serenissima.Monograph identified by Machairas as a "continuation of our treatise "Political and Diplomatic History of Lefkada (1797 - 1810)".
