Lethbridge, AB: Lethbridge Historical Society, 1993. Card Cover. Occasional Paper No. 12. The new railway line between Lethbridge Junction and Fort Macleod was built in 1897-98. It was 37 miles long and included the construction of 20 wooden bridges. By 1904 they were in a bad state of repair. During the summers of 1904/1905 survey parties were exploring an alternate route to Macleod. In 1906 the news broke that the CPR would be building a steel bridge, "which will be one of the wonders of the world." The new bridge would be about one mile long and 300 feet high.
