"Budge" Crawley was Canada's answer to Hollywood's Sam Goldwyn, and he produced hundreds of films during his 40-year career, including the Academy Award-winning 1975 documentary, "The Man Who Skied Down Everest." "Budge" and his wife Judith founded Crawley Films in 1938 and won the first Canadian film award in 1950. Crawley has been referred to as "the Godfather of Canadian cinema," and rightfully so. Archive of materials for "The Society," an short-lived film production organization looking to produce "films which are agreeable and acceptable to all audiences [...] the classic western, the detective story, the family comedy, the simple uncomplicated love story, the science fiction thriller and always the Halloween Eve horror thriller." To our knowledge the organization never produced a completed film, thus remaining entirely conceptual. One of the first pornographic films to feature a plot, character development, and comparably high production values. 8.5 x 11 inches, bi-fold. Resembling the star biography and film credit packets often seen with US press kits, this material details film credits, cast and crew biographies, and a synopsis. The film was distributed by Cinedis, but here is credited to publicity manager G. de Boissiere, with their cute cat logo, as a complimentary kit. Based on Michel Breitman's 1955 novel, "Fortunat, ou le pere adopte." During the occupation of France, a drunkard poacher named Fortunat (Bourvil), is tasked with helping Juliette (Morgan) and her two children escape the Nazis. Archive of press material compiled by Cinedis, a French press and film agency, concerning the formation and founding members of the Ministere de la Culture (Ministry of Culture) of France. The Ministry of Culture was created by Charles de Gaulle in 1959 and the first Minister was writer Andre Malraux, whose responsibilities included the democratizing of access to culture (museums, monuments), and elevating postwar France. He created several cultural centers throughout France, actively sponsored the arts (television, film, visual, dance, literary, etc.), but his tastes, although wide-ranging, remained conservative. During the early years of the Ministry, M. Jacques Jaujard was its general secretary, and he was instrumental in coordinating various organizations like Arts and Humanities, National Theaters, Monuments, Cinema, Tourist propaganda, popular Education.
