Ottawa: Crawley Films Limited, 1966. Archive of press material and photographs for the 1963 Canadian film, and for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the production company, Crawley Films. F.R. "Budge" Crawley was Canada's answer to Hollywood's Sam Goldwyn, and he produced hundreds of films during his 40-year career, including the Academy Award-winning 1975 documentary, "The Man Who Skied Down Everest." "Budge" and his wife Judith founded Crawley Films in 1938 and won the first Canadian film award in 1950. Crawley has been referred to as "the Godfather of Canadian cinema," and rightfully so. Screenplays belonging to production manager Mickey Delamar, one with his manuscript ink annotations throughout. Delamar worked as a producer, production manager, and assistant director on over 30 films, with a career spanning four decades. His credits include Julien Duvivier's "Anna Karenina" (1948), Francois Truffaut's "Fahrenheit 451" (1966), and Terence Young's "Mayerling" (1968). Based on the 1903 novel by Henry James, about an older American sent to France to rescue his wealthy, widowed fiancee's son from a supposedly corrupt Parisian lifestyle. Shot on location in New York. Archive of material belonging to Belgian American actress, singer, and socialite Monique van Vooren, composed primarily of annotated sheet music from her lengthy stage career as a nightclub singer. Material dated variously between the 1950s and the 2000s, although the balance is dated from the late 1950s and 1960s. Nearly 2 linear feet of material in all. Archive contains hundreds of pages of sheet music, with over 70 distinct compositions represented, dating between 1954 and 1972, many including parts for several instruments. Most compositions are annotated in manuscript pencil and ink, often with amendments made in van Vooren's hand to adjust tempo, lyrics, pitch, etc. Also included are two books, the first being in French, inscribed by van Vooren, noting that this is the "first book [she] ever read in English". Featuring seven oversized photographs of Wallace, as well as several photographs and other ephemera related to the photographs of Wallace. Several of photographs have become loose, and have captions or stamps on the verso, most reading "Return to Inez Wallace" with her Cleveland address. All photographs with an internal reference number, printed from the negative, on the lower right of the image. The photographs on offer are almost certainly internally-produced reference photographs taken during the development of Boeing's 747 airliner, and were likely taken at Boeing's Seattle wind tunnel model shop. Development of the world's first twin-aisle airliner, Boeing's 747, began in 1965 under the supervision of Malcolm T. Stamper, then head of Boeing's turbine division (and later Boeing's longest serving president). Engineer Joe Sutter, commonly known as "the father of the 747," headed the design team, and in 1966, aerospace manufacturer Pratt and Whitney developed the JT9D, the first high-bypass-ratio turbofan engine powerful enough for the wide-body airliner. Philadelphia: N.p., 1920. Archive of twelve touched-up photographs of Philadelphia business storefronts, likely for use in real estate advertising, circa 1920. Each with annotations on the versos, noting a catalog number and address. Seven of the photographs depict storefronts in the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia, three in West Philadelphia, one in North Philadelphia, and one in Center City. Almost all locations depicted no longer exist, have been rebuilt, or have had the facades rebuilt. Only one building in the collection remains largely as it is seen in the photograph-a charming candy shop located at 52nd Street and Walnut Street. Approximately 8 x 10 inches, mounted on art board. Archive of 103 vintage vernacular photographs, a mix of double and single weight, by psychologist and documentary filmmaker Barnett Addis, circa 1950s-1960s. 21 photographs with his stamp on the verso, several of which also include brief manuscript pencil annotations noting the subject, location, or year. As a faculty member, and later director, of the Behavioral Science Media Laboratory at UCLA, Addis made numerous education and instructional films on subjects relating to mental health and psychological or developmental disorders. These include "Tourette's Syndrome: The Sudden Intruder" and "Nurse-Patient Interaction" (both 1976), and "Suicides" (1981). Archive of eight vintage borderless photographs, three typescript essays, and a carbon typescript of the first essay and first page of the second, by photographer Jerry Bauer, circa 1967, with the photographs corresponding to the topics of the essays. Bauer was an American photographer best known for his photographic portraits of writers, with his portraits of Samuel Beckett being held in particularly high regard. Much of his work resides in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London. The first essay, "The American Underground: Mind Expansion, A Messiah, 'Love'," is an examination of Timothy Leary and the "League for Spiritual Discovery" (LSD), a communal organization carrying out studies in the religious use of psychedelic drugs, as well as the effects of LSD. The photographs provide a detailed visual account, with notations throughout, of her time at the Hospital as a student nurse in training. Included are over 100 vernacular photographs, generally featuring classmates, professors, doctors, and her fiance, Donald Malcolm, and their friends in posed shots, several detailed autograph letters signed from Malcolm, and over a dozen typed or handwritten poems, presumably by Norris, predominantly on the themes of nursing and religion. Buckinghamshire: London Film Productions, 1980. Small archive of material relating to Denham Film Studios (also known as London Films), circa 1980. A number of notable films were shot at Denham Studios through the 1940s and 1950s, including "Great Expectations" (1946), "Hamlet" (1948), and "The Thief of Bagdad" (1940), before closing in 1952. The studios would be rented to the US Air Force between 1955 and 1961, and were later used for sound recording for film. They are today best remembered for their work on film scores, including "Star Wars" (1977), "Alien" (1979), and "Vertigo" (1958). In 1980 the studios were purchased by a developer and demolished. Los Angeles: Pandemonium Theatre Company, 2004. An archive of 10 original posters for productions staged by Ray Bradbury's Pandemonium Theatre Company from 1988 to 2004. The plays were performed in Southern California, predominantly at The Court Theatre, Falcon Theatre, Theatre West, The Raven Playhouse, and Melrose Theatre. The archive includes posters from 10 productions, including "Fahrenheit 451," "The October Country," "Past, Present & Future," "The Time of Going Away," and "Drunk and In Charge of a Bicycle." and his Irish play "Falling Upward!" "Falling Upward!" was one of Bradbury's favorite plays, and especially as he advanced in age he was know to encourage its frequent production simply for the joy of being able to see it again. Bradbury was an avid playwright and a familiar and enthusiastic presence in the Southern California theatre circuit near his home. N.p.: N.p., 1968. Archive of 48 vintage photographs of car accidents scenes in the Columbia County, New York area, from the years 1961-1965, 1966, and 1968. With the stamp of Lee's Studio in Chatham, NY on the verso of the majority of photographs, along with occasional manuscript annotations. Most photographs housed in sleeves with annotations detailing dates, locations, and occasionally noting whether or not the accident was fatal. Also included are several accident reports prepared by Lee Studios for internal use, and correspondence between Lee and law firms representing people involved in the accidents requesting copies of photographs. The 1960s saw large increases in the number of vehicle fatalities, as car ownership greatly increased over the previous decades, and out of the six years documented in the archive, 1966 and 1968 are both among the ten deadliest in US history. France: 79th Division, 1919. An archive of material from James M. Cain's estate, originally from his office, relating to the newspaper edited (and largely written) by James M. Cain, The Lorraine Cross, during his service with the 79th Division of the US Army of the Allied Expeditionary Force in World War I. Included are: James M. Cain's own copy of the final issue of The Lorraine Cross, published just prior to the division's soldiers return to the US at the end of the war. A typed letter signed from the division's commanding General Joseph E. Kuhn to Cain, praising him and the paper's staff for their efforts. An original broadside printed in red and blue: "Have You Subscribed to The Lorraine Cross?" printed in red and two shades of blue with a comic drawing of doughboys reading the paper. Each photograph mounted on board, with the stamp of photographer George Miles Ryan on the verso, and all but five with his name in manuscript pencil to the rectos of the boards, just below the lower right of each photograph. Photographs in the archive include images of the exteriors of three different dealerships, cars parked in lots, garages, showroom floors, service centers, interior spaces, including waiting areas, offices, a secretary pool, and employee cafeteria, occasionally with employees going about their day.
