This book is in good condition. The covers have some wear on the front, back, edges, and spine. There is some bumping and fraying on the covers The pages are yellowing and tanning, but are clear of any markings. "Our Name, We get the name Presbyterian from the Bible. That statement may surprise some people who have been reading their Bibles for years and do not recall having come across the word "Presbyterian." We must remember that the Bible was not originally written in English. The New Testament was written in Greek and the Old Testament in Hebrew. By 150 B.C. the Old Testament had been translated into Greek. When we turn to the Greek Bible we find a word that occurs about sixty times in the New Testament and about a hundred times in the Old Testament; this word, when pronounced in Greek, sounds very much like the word Presbyterian. It is from this word that we get our name. It means an elder. Literally speaking, a Presbyterian church is a church governed by elders. This book is in very good condition. There is very little wear on the fronthe, back, edges, and spine of the cover pages. The pages are white crisp and clear of markings. "The General Assemblies of 1980 and 1983 directed that a hymnal be developed 'using inclusive language and sensitive to the diverse nature' of the church. The Program Agency and the General Assembly Mission Board responded by creating a hymnbook committee of eighteen persons, reflecting the breadth and diversity of the church. The group included hymnologists and professional musicians. Members of the committee, which was established in accordance with General Assembly guidelines, were from small and large churches and represented the ethnic diversity of the denomination.
