Damp staining to top edge throughout, covers chipped, worn and splitting at spine. Fair to good only but complete. Scarce.

First edition. 12mo white cloth elaborately stamped in gilt on front and spine and with top edge gilt; illustrated with thirty-two full-page reproductions of famous paintings showing scenes from the lives of the authors. Very good with rear lower corner rubbed to board and covers showing light soiling but still quite bright and attractive. A pretty, little gift book.

London: A. M. Philpot, Ltd., 1925. First edition. Frontis portrait of Bennett. Page top edges gilt. Illustrated with a few photographs. Very good in the scarce dust jacket, with spine sunned, marginal chipping, and splits at folds mended on verso with archival tape.

Flanagan, winner of the 2014 Booker Prize for THE NARROW ROAD TO THE DEEP NORTH is "considered by many to be the finest Australian novelist of his generation" (The Economist). By contrast, Johann Friedrich Hohenberger, "John Friedrich," or, as he was also known, "Australia's greatest conman," was the subject of Victoria's biggest fraud case. At the time of Friedrich's death, which was ruled a suicide (he was found dead on his farm near Sale, Victoria, with a single gunshot wound to the head on July 27, 1991), he was writing this posthumously published autobiography with the assistance of Flanagan. Very good in vibrant green cloth binding, a little shelfworn at the spine ends and corners. In a dust jacket that is also very good, with a touch of soiling and some wear to the edges, very shallow chipping, few small tears and spine fold split (but not noticeably).

An unattributed account of the spiritual life of John Blackader interwoven with extracts from his diaries and letters in which he speaks of "Providence" and prayer. 16mo quarter leather; pebble-cloth boards with gilt stamped "Life of Col. Blackader" and "26" just barely visible on spine; 118 pp. plus 6 pp.of publisher's ads (listing previous 25 tracts). Binding somewhat rubbed, particularly at the spine ends and corners, previous owners' names, etc., foxed throughout, altogether good or perhaps better. Scarce.

London: Longman, Brown, Green, Longmans, and Roberts, 1857--1858. First edition. In the ten original monthly parts, each with two full-page illustrated plates at front. Twenty plates in all; plus woodcut illustrations after Cruikshank replicated on front of each wrapper. Most with PUBLISHER'S PRESENTATION blindstamp on front cover. All lacking rear covers (each with plain tan wrap at rear instead) and tissue guards for plates. Each part appears to have been trimmed at top and bottom. Part X front cover darkened, else all are very good with only minor soiling to covers and with plates themselves near fine to fine. Pale yellow pictorial paperwraps each with woodcut after Cruikshank on front cover and each with two full-page plates at front -- 20 etched plates by Cruikshank in all. Apart from some minor soiling to wrappers an excellent untrimmed set with tissue guards present between all but one set of plates and with all but Part I unopened. Touch of spotting to plates, Part I; old damp stain to plate fore edges, Part VII; and stain to upper corner last several leaves and rear cover, Part VIII.
