Hardcover. 0878404902 . 8vo - 21.5 x 13.5 cm.; Volume I: xxv - 655 pp. Volume II: (14) - pages 656 to 1342. Dark blue cloth over boards with gilt lettering on black panels on the spine and the front boards. The original text was established by G. Alberigo, J. A. Dossetti. P.-P. Joannou, C. Leonardi and P. Prodi in consultation with H. Jedin. The documents from the various councils (Nicaea I to Vatican II) are presented with the original language on the verso of each page and the English translation on the facing recto of the following page. (The original texts are taken from G. Albergio edition and others of the decrees "Conciliorum Oecumenicorum Decreta".) The back of Volume II has a 33 page chronological index, a 16 page index of the bible, a 6 page index of the councils, a 9 page index of the Roman Magisterium, an 8 page index of the fathers and the early church, a 1 page index of liturgical books, a 6 page index of canon law, a 10 page index of proper names, an 8 page index of authors, and lastly a 104 page index of subjects. Both volumes show only very minor shelf wear to both book and jacket. However, a big however here, volume II has highlighting in yellow and some sparse ink marginalia on ~ 50 pages or so. It has all been done quite neatly but it is there none the less. Otherwise both volumes could be described as near fine to fine. .

A history of the church told by using biographical sketches of great figures from Saints Peter and Paul to Pope Pius XII. Thirty-nine biographies in all. Each chapter (biography) ends with a study guide, a word matching mini-test, a list of other activities and a short list of new words introduced in the chapter. Illustrated with black and white drawings. Four page chronology, and a 5 page index and pronouncing list at the back. The library markings are a label residue on the lower spine, a stamp on the front free end paper and the title page and unused attachments on the back end papers. The binding is a linen cloth re-enforced in the hinges, library bindng as issued. Moderate wear to the spine tips and the fore corners of the boards. A clear and removable archival cover has been fitted. .

Red card stock covers with back lettering and art work on the front cover in a saddle stapled binding. Sixteen pages of 28 black and white photographs with captions, one of which is a 2 page panorama spread of the crowd (350,000), the child's chorus (62,000) and the altar at Soldiers' Field. The covers are darkened on the margins and the spine fold in the covers is separating from the tail end to approximately half way up. The interior is very clean and aside from the cover tear at the spine, the binding is sound. .
